Past Life Story with Physical Resemblance, Phobia & Geographic Memory: Reincarnation Case of Margaret Kempthorne | Gladys Deacon

A personal account of her experience and the details of a personal interview by Dr. Ian Stevenson were the bases for this child reincarnation story case. Gladys Deacon the person who experienced the child reincarnation detailed her memories of her past life and corroborated it with evidences she has collected. in a story she wrote herself.

The subject of this case, Gladys Deacon, wrote an account of her story that was published in a London newspaper, the Sunday Express, on June 2, 1935. In addition, Ian Stevenson, MD, interviewed her in 1963. As such, we have two sources of information regarding this very interesting case.

Past Life Phobia: Gladys Loves the Name Margaret & has a Phobia of Falling Down

Gladys Deacon was born on January 25, 1900 in Leicestershire, England. Her father was a carpenter and her parents were Roman Catholic. Gladys had a sister and a brother. She had a fondness for the name Margaret and later learned that her parents had considered naming her Margaret. As a young girl, she had a phobia of falling down

Geographic Past Life Memory: Gladys Recalls a Past Life Fall on a Hill

IISIS Site of ReincarnationWhen she was 11 years old, Gladys and her brother were taken on a trip by their mother from Northamptonshire, where they were living, to Dorset. They were going to visit relatives over Christmas. Gladys describes a scene that occurred during their journey:

“After leaving Yeovil our train stopped for some time, and to my surprise I found the country quite familiar to me, especially a hilly field opposite.

I said to my brother, ‘When I was quite a little girl I lived in a house near here. I remember running down a hill in that field with two grown-ups holding my hands and we all fell down and I hurt my leg badly.’

Here my mother broke in to scold me for telling deliberate untruths. I had never been that way before and certainly never lived there. I insisted that I had, and that when I ran down the hill I was wearing a white frock down to my ankles with little green leaves on it, and the persons holding my hands were wearing blue-and-white checked frocks.

I said, ‘My name was Margaret then.’” (1)

Validation of Gladys’s Past Life Memory of Falling

iisisreincarnationpastlifeevidencecarThe source of Gladys’s memories of an apparent past lifetime remained a mystery for the next 17 years. Then, during another trip to Dorset in 1928, when Gladys was 28 years old, she unexpectedly received confirmation of her past life memories. Let us again let Gladys narrate the turn of events:

“I was motoring in 1928 with my then employer through Dorset. While having a tire changed, we went to a cottage not far from Poole where a young woman got us tea.

Spirit Being Guidance: Gladys Sees Herself in an Old Portrait & Receives Validation of her Past Life Memory

While waiting for it, I saw an old portrait on glass, and to my amazement I saw it was myself as I was then, running down that hill, a child of five with a plain, serious face, in a long white dress sprigged with green.

I exclaimed, ‘Why that is me.’ And of course both my employer and the woman laughed. The woman said, ‘Well, that child died years ago, but I guess you were just like her when you were small,’ and my employer agreed.

IISISReincarnationPastLifeEvidencePortriatSeeing I was interested, the woman called her mother to tell me the story of the child.

She said the child was Margaret Kempthorne, the only child of a farmer. The mother of the story-teller at that time was employed at the farm as a dairymaid.

When Margaret was about five she was running down a hill with this dairymaid and another, when one of the grown-ups caught her foot in a rabbit-hole and they all fell, with the child undermost.

Her leg was badly broken. She never recovered and died two months after…’” (2)

Past Life Memory: Location of Margaret’s Past Lifetime, in Yeovil, is Confirmed

Gladys inquired where the farm, where Margaret fell, was located. The old lady replied that she didn’t know the exact location of the farm, but that it was near the market town, Yeovil, where their milk and farm products were sold.

Gladys asked when this happened. The old lady responded by taking the portrait down and handing it to Gladys, who looked at the back of the portrait where a piece of paper with writing was found glued to the portrait. Gladys narrates:

“I read there, ‘Margaret Kempthorne, born January 25, 1830, died October 11, 1835” (3)

Recall that Gladys was also born on January 25, in the year 1900. Given these dates, Gladys was born 65 years after Margaret had died.

Principles of Reincarnation & Understanding Past Lives

Geographic Past life Memory: Gladys’s past life memories were stimulated by traveling through the physical location of her past incarnation in the area around Yeovil, England.

Physical Resemblance: Gladys, her employer and the young woman in Dorset, where the painting of Margaret Kempthorne was found, all agreed that there was a strong physical resemblance between Margaret and Gladys.

Phobia from a Past Lifetime: Margaret died from a fall which resulted in a broken leg, which led to her death. Gladys, as a young girl, had a phobia of falling down.

Spirit Beings: This case was validated by Gladys fortuitously finding the house where a witness to the life of Margaret Kempthorne lived. There, a painting of Margaret was hanging on the wall, which Gladys recognized as herself in a prior incarnation. In this portrait, Margaret was wearing the same frock that Gladys saw in her past life memories, a white frock with green decorations.

The witness to the life of Margaret, described as an “old lady” by Gladys, was the mother of the owner of the house. This old lady’s mother, the grandmother of the owner of the house, was one of the very people that Margaret was with when she was running down the hill and fell, breaking her leg, which led to her death.

What are the odds of finding this house by chance? Gladys found this house because the car she was traveling in with her employer had a flat tire, which required repair.

It is proposed that the flat tire occurred at that very spot because spirit beings caused that incident to happen, which allowed Gladys to validate her past life memories. This type of proposed spirit being intervention was also observed in the cases of Carroll Beckwith | Robert Snow and John B. Gordon | Jeff Keene.

Planning of Future Incarnations: In reviewing this reincarnation case, we observe a common date of birth. Margaret Kempthorne was born on January 25, 1830 and Gladys Deacon was born on January 25, 1900. Though the common date of birth of January 25 could be simply a coincidence, it could also represent Margaret, from the spirit world, planning her birth on that date to draw a tie from her past incarnation to her future one.

There are cases in which the date of an individual’s reincarnation has been predicted from the spirit world. In the reincarnation case of Felix Fresnel | Cristophe Albert, Felix, from the spirit world, predicted the date, place and family of his coming incarnation. In the reincarnation case of Jaako Vuorenlehto | Taru Javi, Jaako, from the spirit world, predicted the date of his reincarnation.

Change of Religion: Gladys was born into a Roman Catholic family and her mother was quite surprised when Gladys, at 11 years of age, started to describe incidents from a past lifetime. In this case, a Roman Catholic girl became a convert to a belief in reincarnation.

Child Reincarnation Story of Ibleto di Challant | Giuseppie Costa: Same Facial Features in Two Incarnations

Fascinating reincarnation case solved through a spirit being that shows facial features can remain the same.

How Derived: Past Life Memories in Childhood and Guidance by Spirit Beings

From the Beyond to This Life

ReincarnationEvidenceIstanbulBosporus

In his book, Giuseppe did not provide his date of birth, but Stevenson estimated that he was born around the year 1880. Giuseppe grew up in a small town in Italy called Gonzaga, near Mantua. He was trained and worked as an engineer.

Child Past Life Memories of Constantinople and a Military Campaign

Giuseppe Costa’s story started in childhood, when a painting that this parents had in their home triggered memories of a past lifetime. The painting was of the city of Constantinople, now called Istanbul, in Turkey, which is pictured to the right. The painting featured the river that runs through the city, which is called the Bosporus. Ian Stevenson summarized Giuseppe’s memories, stimulated by the painting, as follows:

“Scenes of large numbers of armed men, ships sailing, banners flying, the noise of battle, mountains, the sea stretching to the horizon, hills covered with flowers.” (1)

A Dream of Sailing to Venice and Battle in a Sunny Land

ReincarnationEvidenceVeniceAt the age of 10, his father took Giuseppe to Venice, where he experienced a very vivid dream. A description of Giuseppe’s dream is provided below:

“After a long journey in boats, through rivers and canals, we arrived in Venice. We traveled in barques filled with armed soldiers in the clothing of the Middle Ages. I seemed to be about 30 years old and had some kind of command.

After a stay in Venice, we embarked in galleys on which two banners waved: a blue one with the image of the Virgin Mary among golden stars, and that of Savoy, red with a white cross.

On the larger galley, which was more painted and decorated, there was someone to whom everyone showed great respect and who spoke to me with great friendliness. Then came the sea, seemingly endless, stretching beyond the horizon. Then we disembarked in a sunny land with a clear sky of cobalt blue.

reincarnationevidencemedievalbattle

Then the army disembarked again and landed in a different place. There the troops were coordinated; there were tents full of soldiers, beneath a city with old towers bristling with armaments.

Then came our assault, a battle of tremendous violence ending when we broke into the city. Then finally came the march of our splendid army into the city with its domes of gold on the wonderful bay. This was the magnificent city, Constantinople, depicted in the painting of in our house in Gonzaga, as I learned later.” (2)

Giuseppe realized that the images of this vivid dream replicated images he had when he was gazing on the painting of Constantinople in his parent’s home, years before. Giuseppe noted that his earlier memories were scattered, while the dream in Venice put the images in logical order.

Giuseppe’s Early Interest in Military Affairs & A Sense of Shame in Church from a Past Lifetime

ReincarnationEvidenceStAndreaVercelliAs a young man, Giuseppe showed an enthusiastic interest in firearms, fencing and horseback riding. He volunteered for military service and was appointed a second lieutenant in the Royal Cavalry of Piedmont. He loved military life. It came naturally to him, as if he had lived the life of a military man before. He was stationed in the city of Vercelli, which is located between Milan and Turin.

In Vercelli, Giuseppe had an unusual emotional experience at the Church of San Andrea, which is pictured to the right. He was walking by the church and was drawn by music that emanated from it. Inside the church, he felt a great sense of repentance, which was very unpleasant. He didn’t know why he had this reaction, but he speculated this feeling of shame may have had something to do with a ceremony that he participated in, perhaps in a past incarnation.

Giuseppe Has an Out of Body Experience

After his term in the army, Giuseppe returned home and focused on caring for and supporting his family. His interest in a past lifetime which involved a military campaign that started in Venice and ended in Constantinople faded.

Unexpectedly, Giuseppe had an out-of-body experience, which reignited his belief in the supernatural. He had been studying for his engineering exams and stayed up late one night. Exhausted, he fell asleep in his bed and during the night, he knocked over an oil lamp, which filled the room with smoke.

The fumes awakened him and he found himself floating over his body. He was surprised to be able to see through the wall into his mother’s room, where Giuseppe saw his mother opening a window to get rid of the oil fumes that had also entered her room. He than saw her run into his room and open the window in his room.

Afterwards, Giuseppe asked his mother if she had indeed opened the window in her room before she came into his room. His mother confirmed that she did, which for Giuseppe verified that his ability to see through the wall that separated their rooms was real. This incident also supports the premise that our consciousness can retain awareness outside of the body; that we are indeed spirit beings.

A Spirit Being Appears to Provide a Clue to Giuseppe’s Past Life

The next chapter in Giuseppe’s reincarnation saga takes place on a vacation trip he took with two friends. They went to see three castles in the valley of Aostas, in Italy, near the border with France. Giuseppe noted that he had three different emotional reactions at these castles. The three castles visited and the associated emotions were as follows:

Castle at Fenis: Giuseppe had no emotional reaction.

Castle at Ussel: Giuseppe felt a sense of sadness and oppression.

Victorian Ghost

Castle at Verres: At this location, pictured above and to the right, Giuseppe was profoundly moved with emotions. The predominant feelings he experienced were great love and significant regrets.

After he and his friends returned to where they were lodging, Giuseppe decided to return to the Verres castle at sunset. A storm then descended on the castle, which forced him to spend the night there.

During the night at the castle at Verres, Giuseppe awoke and saw a phosphorescent light, which enlarged and transformed into a woman. Giuseppe got up from his resting place and walked to the vision of the woman. As he approached her, Giuseppe felt a deep, deep sense of love. The woman then said:

“Ibleto! I wanted to see you again once more before divine death unites us once more…Read near the tower of Albenga an account of one of your past lives…Remember me and that I am waiting for you until the time comes.” (3)

Verification of Giuseppe’s Past Lifetime at the Castle of Albenga

IISISReincarnationEvidenceAlbengaThis incident with the apparition made Giuseppe research the possible past lifetime. Having had the experience with a spirit being at the castle at Verres, he researched its history. He learned that a man named Ibleto di Challant had built the castle in 1380 and that Ibleto was a trusted counselor to Amadeus VI, Count of Savoy.

He next decided to follow the advice of the spirit being and Giuseppe visited Albenga, pictured to the right, to find the tower where the woman said a clue to one of his past lifetimes would be found. Giuseppe discovered that there were several towers near Albenga. One of them, though, was owned by a descendant of di Challant family, the family that had owned the castle at Verres, where he had seen the spirit being.

Giuseppe Finds his Past Life Story

Giuseppe met the owner of the tower, the Marquis Del Carretto di Balestrina, who had preserved a biography of Ibleto di Challant, the man who owned the Verres castle. The biography was an unpublished book written by Boniface II, the owner of the Fenis castle, the site where Giuseppe had no emotional reaction.

Giuseppe found that in reading the biography of Ibleto, he found that events in Ibleto’s life corresponded with the images Giuseppe saw in his childhood memories of a past lifetime, in the scenes stimulated by gazing at the painting of Constantinople and in his dream that occurred in Venice when he was ten.

Ibleto di Challant and the Count of Savoy

ReincarnationEvidenceSavoy1Ibleto was born in 1330. From childhood, he was involved in the court of Amadeus VI, the Count of Savoy. The Savoy coat of arms is provided to the right. Ibleto later became a military companion and advisor to Amadeus. Eventually, Ibleto inherited the castle at Verres, as well as other properties, such as the castle at Montjovet. Other family members inherited other estates, such as the castle at Ussel.

Ibleto Falls in Love

Ibleto fell in love with the sister of Amadeus VI, who was called Blanche of Savoy. He wanted to marry her, but Amadeus had engineered an arranged marriage for his sister with the Lord of Milan. In the end, Ibelto married Giacometta di Chatillon, a union that his father had arranged. Giuseppe and Giacometta were married on September 28, 1350. Giacometta must have died before Giuseppe, as records indicate that he remarried later in life.

Reincarnation & the Crusades: The Capture of Gallopoli & Constantinople

ReincarnationEvidenceIstanbulIn 1366, Ibleto went with Amadeus VI on a crusade against the Turks at Constantinople. The Crusades were a series of military campaigns involving European Christian soldiers who sought to free Jerusalem from Islamic forces.

Amadeus organized his army initially in Venice. They then went on to Morea in Southern Greece to regroup. From there, his forces traveled to Gallipoli, which was occupied by Islamic Turks. Amadeus’s troops were victorious in battle and the Turks surrendered Gallipoli. From there, Amadeus and his army marched onto Constantinople, which they took without resistance. From there, Amadeus and his troops turned back and returned to Italy.

The Rebellion in Biella, the Capture of the Bishop of Vericelli & Ibelto’s Excommunication

In 1378, Ibleto was involved in military action once again. Historical records indicate that he put down a rebellion in the city of Biella, which is near the Turin. Amadeus captured the Vatican’s representative, the bishop of Vercelli, who apparently was involved in the rebellion. Ibleto had the bishop imprisoned at his castle at Montjovet. The Pope, in retaliation, excommunicated Ibleto for holding the bishop at Montjovet.

Reincarnation & the Vatican: Ibleto is Humiliated at the Church at St. Andrea, Where Giuseppe Felt Repentance

ReincarnationEvidenceUsselCastleLater, the Vatican offered to lift the sentence of excommunication if Ibleto publicly expressed his repentance to the bishop of Vercelli in a ceremony to be held in the church of St. Andrea. Ibelto agreed an endured this spectacle of public humiliation.

Recall that Giuseppe had experienced a great feeling of repentance when he visited the church of St. Andrea, when he was stationed in Vercelli during his military career.

Guiseppe’s Sadness at The Castle at Ussel & Ibleto’s Shame

Giuseppe also learned that Ibleto’s family members, who held the castle at Ussel, featured to the right, had brought great shame to him when they began robbing the people who lived in the valley below the castle. The Count of Savoy punished these family members by imposing a fine, but the family name was marred. Giuseppe now understood why he had feelings of sadness and oppression when he visited the castle at Ussel.

Reincarnation & Appearance or Physical Resemblance: Ibleto di Challant & Giuseppie Costa

Young Norman Knight

Giuseppe Costa a found portrait of Ibleto di Challant, which he published in his book. Ernesto Bozzano, a researcher who investigated this case, noted that the faces of Ibelto and Giuseppe were so similar that one may have mistaken one for the other. Both men were very large in stature and both had a military bearing.

Spirit Being Guidance to a Past Life Biography

Giuseppe Costa was able to validate memories of a past lifetime through the biography that he found in the possession of the Marquis Del Carretto di Balestrina, the owner of a tower in Albenga.

Perhaps the most striking aspect of this case is how Giuseppe found the biography. Recall that he was spending the night at the castle at Verres when a female ghost or spirit being welcomed him with great love and told him that he would find information on his past lifetime in a tower at Albenga, which is on the French Riviera.

Victorian Ghost

As such, this spirit being who appeared in a castle in Italy near the French border was advising Giuseppe to go to a tower on the French Riviera approximately 140 miles or 225 kilometers away.

As both Giuseppe and Ian Stevenson, MD have noted, what is the probability of finding the biography at Albenga, 140 miles/225/kilometers away, by chance?

Further, Giuseppe pointed out that between 1300, when it was written, and 1900, when he found the biography in Albenga, the biography could have landed in the hands of one of many relatives. What are the odds that it would land in same place that the apparition told him that he would find information regarding his past lifetime?

This case clearly demonstrates that a spirit being facilitated the investigation of a past lifetime.

Who was the female spirit who appeared to Giuseppe in the Verres castle? Giuseppe’s three primary candidates were Blanche of Savoy, who Ibleto loved, but was not allowed to marry; Giacometta di Chatillon, who became his first wife; and finally, his second wife, who was unnamed in this narrative.

Confirmation of a Past Life Dream

ReincarnationEvidenceVeniceCanal

Let us review aspects of Giuseppe’s dream that he experienced in Venice at the age of ten, and events in the life of Ibelto di Challant, as revealed by his biography and other records:

1. Dream: “After a long journey in boats, through rivers and canals, we arrived in Venice. We traveled in barques filled with armed soldiers in the clothing of the Middle Ages. I seemed to be about 30 years old and had some kind of command.”

Biography: In 1366, Ibleto went with Amadeus VI on a crusade against the Turks at Constantinople. Amadeus initially organized his army in Venice.

ReincarnationEvidenceGallipoli

2. Dream: “After a stay in Venice, we embarked in galleys on which two banners waved: a blue one with the image of the Virgin Mary among golden stars, and that of Savoy, red with a white cross.

On the larger galley, which was more painted and decorated, there was someone to whom everyone showed great respect and who spoke to me with great friendliness. Then came the sea, seemingly endless, stretching beyond the horizon. Then we disembarked in a sunny land with a clear sky of cobalt blue.”

Biography: Amadeus organized his army initially in Venice. They then went on to Morea in Southern Greece to regroup. Morea may be the location that Giuseppe saw in his dream that the army disembarked on. In his dream, the man who people respected and who showed great friendliness to Guiseppe would have been Amadeus VI.

3. Dream: “Then the army disembarked again and landed in a different place. There the troops were coordinated; there were tents full of soldiers, beneath a city with old towers bristling with armaments. Then came our assault, a battle of tremendous violence ending when we broke into the city.”

Biography: From Morea in Southern Greece, the army of Amadeus VI traveled to Gallipoli, which was occupied by Islamic Turks. Amadeus’s troops were victorious in battle and the Turks surrendered Gallipoli. As such, the assault and capture of a city in Giuseppe’s dream was likely the capture of Gallipoli from the Turks by Amadeus, Ibelto and their troops.

IISISReincarnationEvidenceIstanbulBosporus

4. Dream: “Then finally came the march of our splendid army into the city with its domes of gold on the wonderful bay. This was the magnificent city, Constantinople, depicted in the painting of in our house in Gonzaga, as I learned later.”

Biography: Amadeus and Ibelto did enter Constantinople. One discrepancy is that historical records, Amadeus took Constantinople without resistance. As such, it appears that in Giuseppe’s dream, the capture of Constantinople was confused with the assault on Gallipoli.

Understanding Past Lives & Principles of Reincarnation

Physical Resemblance: Of significance, it was observed from a portrait of Ibleto that the resemblance between Ibleto and Giuseppe was so close that they were indistinguishable. Not only were facial features the same, they both had large builds and military bearing.

Geographic Memory: Also note that past life locations, including Venice, the castles of Verres and Ussel, and the church at St. Andrea, stimulated memories or emotions in Giuseppe. We have also observed this phenomenon of geographic locations stimulating past life memories and emotions in the cases of John B. Gordon | Jeff Keene, Francesco Foscari | Wayne Peterson and Louise Vanderbilt | Wayne Peterson.

Spirit Being Involvement: A dramatic aspect of this reincarnation case is that it was solved through the assistance of the female spirit being who appeared to Giuseppe at the castle at Verres. This spirit being welcomed him with great love and told him that he would find information on his past lifetime in a tower at Albenga, on the French Riviera. As such, this spirit being advised Giuseppe to go to a tower approximately 140 miles or 225 kilometers away from the castle of Verres, where he did find the biography with allowed him to validate his past lifetime.

This is reminiscent of the case of Carroll Beckwith | Robert Snow, as Captain Snow was led from Indianapolis to New Orleans, where he found the painting of the hunchback woman which he had seen in a past life regression. Finding the painting of the hunchback allowed Captain Snow to validate his past life memories objectively.

One difference is that Captain Snow was led to the painting unconsciously, through apparent telepathic communications from the spirit world. In contrast, Guiseppi seems to have had some clairvoyant abilities, as he was able to actually see the female spirit being, who helped him solve his case.

Summary: Past Life Memories, Physical Appearance & Spirit Being in a Fascinating Reincarnation Story

Given that this case involves validation of past life memories, observation of physical resemblance from one lifetime to another and geographic locations stimulating past life memories, emotions and even a spirit being, we owe a great deal of appreciation to Giuseppe Costa for publishing his story and to Ian Stevenson for preserving it in European Cases of the Reincarnation Type. It is indeed a very rich and fascinating reincarnation case.

Child Reincarnation Story of Bootlegger Sammy Fernando | Sujith Jayaratne

Same appearance and behaviors across two lifetimes.

How Cases Derived: Past Life Memories in Childhood

Researcher: Ian Stevenson, MD

From: Reincarnation and Biology: A Contribution to the Etiology of Birthmarks and Birth Defects, by Ian Stevenson, MD

Article by: Walter Semkiw, MD, from Born Again

The Early Life of Sammy Fernando

B. Selvin Fernando, who would be known by his nickname, Sammy, was born on January 3, 1919 in Gorankana, Sri Lanka. Gorankana is 10 miles or 17 kilometers south of Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka. Gorankana Sammy was another name Selvin was known by.

Sammy’s father was B. Jamis Fernando, who had a defect of his right eye, in which the lens was opaque. His mother’s name was W. Lucia Silva. Sammy had a younger brother named Milton, who later in life had the misfortune of falling from a train. Milton incurred a serious injury to his back and had to be placed in a cast. After the cast was removed, Milton walked with limp and had to use a cane. The family lived in the Gorakawatte section of Gorakana. (1)

As a youngster, Sammy spent much time in a Buddhist temple that was called Kale Pansala, which means “Forest Temple.” It was only 100 meters or yards from his home. There were two monks at this temple, with whom Sammy became acquainted with. One of these monks was named Amitha. As a young adult, Sammy would contribute generously to this temple.

Later in life, Sammy embarked on a pilgrimage to Adam’s Peak, a tall mountain in Sri Lanka. Folklore has it that the Buddha himself stayed on this peak.

Sammy attended an elementary school called Kabal Iskole, which means “dilapidated school” in English. (2)

Sammy Dances, Sings and Plays Instruments at the Family’s Dance Hall

Sammy possessed natural talents for singing, playing musical instruments and dancing. He learned to play the Japanese mandolin and when he grew older, he became proficient at playing a drum called the rabana, as well as a larger drum that was about a yard or meter long.

Jamis, Sammy’s father, had a special structure built on the family’s property designed for dancing and music, where Sammy would demonstrate his skills. The structure had a roof and an open frame, so festivities had the ambiance of the outdoors, but was protected from the rain. (3)

Sammy works for the Railroad and Falls in Love with Maggie Alwis

In adulthood, Sammy was first employed by a bus company and later by the government railways, where he worked in engines.

Sammy fell in love with an older, beautiful woman named Maggilin Alwis, though Sammy called her Maggie or Maggio. The couple eventually married and Sammy moved into the house owned by Maggie. The house was on the main highway between Colombo and another city called Galle. The road was a major thoroughfare and commercial trucks traversed it, often at high speed. The property owned by Maggie, and now Sammy, extended to a nearby river. The couple eventually had a daughter, who was named Nandanie.

During the early period of their relationship, Sammy’s desire to be with Maggie was so great that he often missed work to be with her. His absences became so frequent, that he was fired from his railway job when he was 25 years of age. (4)

Sammy becomes a Distiller and Bootlegger

After being terminated from the railway, Sammy had few options for employment. He solved this problem by becoming a self-employed distiller of arrack, an alcoholic drink consumed in Sri Lanka. Sammy became very good at his craft and his arrack was in high demand.

Unfortunately for Sammy, the production of arrack at the time was a government monopoly and it was illegal for others to distill it. As such, Sammy kept his still in the jungle behind his home. He distributed the liquor he produced by boat, traveling by the river that was adjacent to their property. Sammy built a dock for his boat on their land.

Sammy Spends Time in Prison, Carries a Dagger, Wears Brass Knuckles & Builds a Secret Path

Still, police periodically raided Sammy’s operation and would arrest him. The police would wait in the front of his house until Sammy came home, at which time he would be taken into custody. He was imprisoned at least 8 times. To evade authorities, Sammy cut a trail in the jungle so that he could access his house from the rear. This way he would not have to enter by the front door, which was adjacent to the road between Colombo and Galle.

Bootlegging, as it is called in the United States, is not for the faint hearted, and Sammy’s personality was right for the profession. He was known to be fearless, possessed a long dagger and brass knuckles, also known as knucklebusters, which is a metal weapon worn on the hand to make punches more lethal. (5)

Sammy’s Alcoholism

In addition to being a skilled producer of arrack, Sammy was a very avid consumer of the drink; so much so that Ian Stevenson assessed that Sammy’s consumption warranted the diagnosis of alcoholism. When Sammy went on his boat trips to sell arrack, he often took no food, finding that arrack satisfied his nutritional needs.

A favorite drinking venue of his was a tavern at a place called Moratua. Sammy would take his brother-in-law, Martin Alwis, as well as another drinking buddy, Wimalasdasa de Alwis, to the Moratua tavern.

When he was at home, Sammy would drink in his favorite chair and assume a posture with his legs drawn up, similar to the lotus position used by those who meditate.

Sammy’s Taste for Cigarettes and Terrylene Shirts

Like many consumers of alcohol, Sammy was also a smoker and his favorite cigarette brands where Four Aces and Three Roses, which were more expensive than lesser quality cigarettes available in Sri Lanka. Sammy was also particular about his clothing and preferred to wear expensive shirts made of synthetic fiber called Terrylene.

With these shirts, he would don a sarong, a skirt-like piece of apparel that men in Sri Lanka wear. Sammy would tie the top ends of the sarong into a knot that would protrude up above the sarong, just below the navel or belly button. Sammy would keep money in this knot. (6)

Sammy’s Temper and Assaults on Maggie

As often occurs, Sammy’s tendency to be violent was enhanced when he drank arrack. As one of Sammy’s friends observed, “He had a bad temper when drunk and he was invariably drunk.” (7)

A frequent target for Sammy’s anger was Maggie. When he was in a drunken state, he would start an argument and curse vociferously, using a broad spectrum of swear words. Maggie adopted the strategy of leaving the house and walking away down the Colombo-Galle road.

To add to her woes, Sammy acquired a mistress, with whom he had an illegitimate son, who was named Sunil Fernando. Sammy did not show much affection to his daughter, Nandanie, nor did he give his daughter money.

Kusuma gives Sammy Refuge

In contrast, Sammy was very generous to his favorite niece, Kusuma Dabare, who was the daughter of Sammy’s younger sister. Kusuma lived with Sammy’s parents, Jamis and Lucia, at their home in the Gorakawatte section of Gorakana.

After an episode of drinking, Sammy would go to his parent’s house and ask Kusuma to cook for him and she obliged him by preparing hot meals for him. This pattern occurred 3 times a week. In gratitude, Sammy gave money to Kusuma liberally. Sammy also had the tendency to give money to children, the poor and as mentioned, the Kale Pansala temple. (8)

The Death of Gorakana Sammy

Sammy’s demise occurred on January 29, 1969. He was drunk and started an argument with Maggie. Her brother, Martin Alwis, was present. As usual, Maggie escaped from Sammy by leaving the house and walking away down the Colombo-Galle road. Sammy followed her, with Martin in tow. Sammy stopped in a shop with Martin to purchase cigarettes.

As Martin was making his purchase, in his drunken state, Sammy walked out of the shop and onto the road, where a truck struck him. Martin heard the sound of he vehicle crashing into Sammy, exited the shop and found him on the roadway sprawled on his back. Sammy died shortly thereafter at 50 years of age.

Despite his faults, the poor remembered Sammy’s generosity, so much so that they raised enough money to pay the complete cost of his funeral. In fact, Sammy gave away so much money that the only possessions he still had at the time of his death were a ring, a belt and his brass knuckles. (9)

Sammy is Reincarnated Six Months Later

Sujith Lakmal Jayaratne was born on August 8, 1969, a little over six months after Sammy died. His parents lived in Mount Lavinia, which is 3 miles or 5 kilometers south of Colombo. Gorankana, the village where Sammy lived, is another 7 miles or 12 kilometers further south from Mount Lavinia. (10)

Sujith’s Past Life Memories Include Working for the Railroad and Milton’s Fall

Before acquiring much of a vocabulary, Sujith tried to express memories of a prior incarnation. He would use gestures and sounds to try to communicate. When he was asked what he did in the prior lifetime, he made sounds that imitated a steam locomotive engine.

When his speech became more developed, he said that he had worked in the engines of trains and that he was fired from his railroad job. Ian Stevenson was impressed that Sujith recalled being terminated from the railroad, which occurred when Sammy was 25 years of age, which meant that almost 55 years had transpired when Sujith reported this event. (11)

Also, before he learned to talk, he tried to express that someone had fallen and became lame by imitating a person limping and using a cane. Later, when Sujith was able to converse, he told his mother that the person who fell and limped as a result was his brother in the prior lifetime, whose name was Milton, which was accurate regarding Milton Fernando. (12)

Sujith’s Past Life Memories of Being Gorakana Sammy

As a child, Sujith said that his name was Sammy and that he was from Gorakana. He said he was called “Gorakana Sammy.” Sujith frequently referred his father, who he said was named Jamis and who had a bad right eye. He had a tendency to speak in the present tense. For example, Sujith said, “Jamis is at Gorakana,” whereas in reality, Jamis had died in September 1970. He repeatedly asked to be taken to Gorakana. He made the statement, “This is not my home and I wish to be taken to Gorakana.” (13)

Sujith later said that he lived in the Gorakawatte section of Gorakana, which is where Jamis and his family lived and where Sammy grew up. Ian Stevenson was especially impressed at Sujith’s knowledge of the term Gorakawatte, as it was an old term for the area that had not been used for several decades. In the years before Sujith’s birth, a new name, Ampityawatte, was used for the neighborhood. (14)

Past Life Memories: Sujith remembers the Dilapidated Schoolhouse and Forest Temple

Sujith said that he went to school at Kable Iskole, which means the “dilapidated school,” and that his teacher was named Francis. Sammy did indeed go to this run down elementary school and his teacher was indeed named Francis. (15)

Sujith said that he used to go Kale Pansala, translated as the “Forest Temple,” that two monks lived there and that he used to give money to this temple. He said one of the monks was named Amitha. Sammy did contribute to this temple, which was only 100 meters from his childhood home, and Sammy knew the monk Amitha.

Ian Stevenson was also impressed that Sujith knew the term Kale Pansala. When Sujith made these statements, the term Kale Pansala had not been used for several decades. Though Kale Pansala was present during Sammy’s early years, the temple was moved to a different location and was called by a completely different name, Dharmarakshitaramaya.

Again, Ian Stevenson was impressed how far back in Sammy’s lifetime Sujith could access memories. (16)

Sujith’s Past Life Phobia of Trucks

From an early age, Sujith had a marked fear or phobia of trucks. The family didn’t understand why he had this fear. Then one night, Sujith woke up from sleep and he ran around the house waking up everyone in his family. He then informed them:

“Do you know that I was run over by a lorry and that is how I died?”

Since the English colonized Sri Lanka, the British term for truck is used by Sri Lankans, which is “lorry.” After waking up everyone to announce the cause of his death in his prior incarnation, Sujith went back to sleep.

On another occasion, he woke the family up again and said he wanted to go to Gorakana, then went back to sleep. (17)

Past Life Behavior: In a Teetotaler Family, as a Child, Sujith asks for Arrack and Pretends he is Drunk

Since no one in his family drank alcohol, they were shocked when Sujith, as a child, asked for arrack.

Subsequently, Sujith asked for arrack frequently. When he realized that his family would not comply with his requests, he would go to his neighbors to ask for arrack. One of them finally complied, but stopped giving arrack to the child when Sujith’s grandmother objected and chastised the neighbor.

At times, when he was given a soda to drink, Sujith would pretend that the beverage would make him drunk. He would weave around as if he was intoxicated and fall on the floor and say “bila,” which means, “having drunk.”

He would also assume Sammy’s drinking posture, in that he would sit in a chair with his legs drawn up. After taking a sip of the soda, he would make a sound with his throat that arrack drinkers make. He would then wipe his mouth, as if he was removing traces of an irritating, strong alcoholic drink from his lips, again, a behavior typical of arrack drinkers.

At other times, Sujith would just fall to the ground and say, “I am drunk,” even without the soda. (18)

Sujith remembers being a Bootlegger in a Past Life

Sujith told his family that he also sold arrack. He said that once he filled a boat with arrack and that the boat sank. This incident occurred 8 years before Sammy’s death.

He also recalled that he could access his house via a jungle path. (19)

Past Life Behavior: Sujith asks for Four Aces and Bums a Cigarette

As no one in the family smoked, they were also surprised when Sujith, as a 4 year old, asked them to get Four Aces cigarettes for him, which was one of the brands that Sammy smoked. Again, they would not comply. Still, Sujith tried to smoke and he once bummed a cigarette from a visitor and then asked his mother for a light. (20)

Past Life Emotions: Sujith recalls his Fights with Maggie and Affection for Kusuma

Sujith told his family that he had a wife named Maggie that he fought with. When they asked why he fought with Maggie, Sujith replied it was because he was drunk. He said that he had a daughter named Nandanie and a niece named Kusuma, who was his younger sister’s daughter, who had very long and thick hair.

He said that Kusuma was in Gorakana and that he gave money to her. Sujith said that Kusuma made a hot meal for him called “string hoppers,” which is a type of noodle dish. All these statements were accurate regarding Sammy’s wife and niece. (21)

Later, Sujith said, “When I start earning I will give… to Kusuma,” showing his intent to replicate their relationship. (22)

Sujith Remembers Details of his Past Life Death

Sujith said that after he had an argument with Maggie, he went to a shop to get cigarettes, then stepped out on the road and was killed when a truck struck him. Sujith would even imitate the posture that he was in on the road after being struck. He would lay on the ground, on his back, with one arm stuck out. This was the posture that Sammy was in after being hit by the truck, as observed by his brother in law, Martin. (23)

Wattarappola, a Buddhist Monk, Investigates Sujith’s Past life Memories

The family came to believe that Sujith had a past incarnation in Gorakana, but they didn’t know anyone in that village to approach. The family had a relative, Wattarappola Nadaratana, who was a monk. When he heard about Sujith’s remarks alluding to a past lifetime, he documented these statements and decided to investigate.

Wattarappola went to Gorakana to make inquiries. There he met Kusuma Dabare, Sammy’s favorite niece, on March 13, 1972, and he told her about Sujith’s statements. At first, she did not know what to make of the situation, but she went home and consulted with her family about Sujith’s past life memories. (24)

Kusama and other Relatives Visit Sujith

Kusuma traveled to Mt. Lavinia two days later, on March 15, 1972, and sought out Wattarappola, who said it was premature to meet Sujith. Instead, he said he would return to Gorakana and meet with Sammy’s family. He did so and confirmed that Sujith’s statements were accurate regarding the lifetime of Sammy Fernando.

News spread through the Fernando family and Kusuma and 10 others from Gorakana arrived at Sujith’s home on March 30, 1972. The sight of such a large party frightened Sujith. He held onto his mother and said nothing.

She returned the next day with only 4 others. Sujith recognized her and called Kusuma by name. Sujith also recognized one of the other visitors, Sammy’s nephew, and called him by his name, Kithsiri. (25)

On another occasion, a distant relative of Sammy Fernando named Princie came to Sujith’s home and stood in front of the house. Though a large crowd was present along with her, Sujith recognized her and said, “Come in. Come in.” He correctly said, “You are Princie.” (26)

Maggie Visits Sujith, her Past Life Husband

Maggie, Sammy’s widow, came to visit Sujith in Mount Lavinia. Wattarappola, who was convinced that Sujith’s family did not know who she was at the time of their first meeting, documented the scene. His narrative of events follows:

“On April 3, 1972, Maggilin Alwis called on the child’s house accompanied by a couple of other ladies of the same age group. For about 20 minutes, the child did not speak. Thereafter he suddenly called out ‘Maggie’ to one lady and said: ‘Maggie is going down the road.’

We enquired from the lady whether she was named correctly. She said her late husband always called her Maggie, and that when he came home drunk and picked a quarrel with her, she always walked down the road.

After this the child ran inside the house. During his absence I got all the visitors into a room unseen by the child and I myself remained on the veranda. The child came out after a few minutes and very excitedly started calling out:

‘Where is Maggilin? Where is Maggilin? Went to Gorakana. Went to Gorakana.’

He started running about in the house and dashed into the room where the ladies were.

‘I love you Maggie, I love you Maggie,’ he said to Maggilin.

The lady started crying and embraced the child lovingly. The child said:

‘Look what you did to me. Look what you did to me.’

We inquired of her what this meant. She explained that on the day Sammy Fernando met his death, he came home roaring drunk and started to quarrel with her. She fled down the road and he started chasing her and was knocked down by a lorry.

Later when the party, along with Maggalin, were leaving [to return] Gorakana, the child became restive and wanted to go along with them.” (27)

Sujith Recognizes his Past Life Drinking Buddies

Other of Sammy’s friends and family came to visit Sujith at Mount Lavinia. Sujith seemed to remember which of these individuals used to drink arrack with Sammy and which did not. He only invited Sammy’s drinking cohorts to have arrack.

When Martin, Sammy’s brother-in- law, came to Mount Lavinia, Sujith suggested that they go to the tavern at Moratuwa , where Martin and Sammy used to go. When another of Sammy’s drinking companions, Wimalasdasa de Alwis, came to visit him, little Sujith addressed the middle-aged man like a familiar old friend, and asked him for arrack. (28)

Sujith is taken to his Past Life Home

On April 29, 1973, Wattarappola took Sujith to Gorakana. When taken to the Jamis’s house, where Sammy grew up, Sujith went all over the house looking for Jamis. When Sujith couldn’t find him, he made the statement, “My father Jamis is not here.” It was at this time that Sujith first learned that Jamis had died. (29)

Sujith also recognized the open-air structure on the property and correctly stated that it was used for dancing. At the property, Sujith asked for Sammy’s drum. When it was brought out, since it was too large for Sujith to hold (it was a meter long), he sat on it and banged on one end. (30)

Sujith also recognized Sammy’s ring, belt and brass knuckles. Sujith wanted to keep these articles and bring them back to Mount Lavinia, and was annoyed when he was not allowed to do so. (31)

Past Life Behavior: Similarities in Sammy’s and Sujith’s Preferences in Regards to Food and Clothing

There were similarities in tastes between Sammy and Sujith. In terms of food, both liked spicy dishes, such as hot curries. Another distinctive shared trait shared involves Sujith’s request for expensive Terrylene shirts. Ian Stevenson even saw Sujith wearing such a shirt. (32)

Most men who wear sarongs in Sri Lanka tie the top of the sarong above the navel. In contrast, both Sammy and Sujith positioned the top of a sarong below the belly button and they both formed a large knot with the sarong material on the top of the garment. When Sujith was asked why he made such a knot, he explained that the knot is where he would keep money, a habit that Sammy also had. (33)

Sujith’s Phobias from a Past Lifetime

Sujith had fears related to his past lifetime as Sammy. When he was only 8 months of age, his mother realized that Sujith had a fearful response to just the word “lorry.” She exploited this fear by saying “lorry” if Sujith wouldn’t drink his milk. “Lorry” would intimidate him into submission. (34)

As mentioned, Sujith often wanted to be taken to Gorakana. If asked if he would go there by truck, he refused, When offered to be taken to Gorakana by car, he would accept. Wattarappola noted that Sujith was “mortally afraid of lorries.” (35)

Sujith was also afraid of policemen. His aunt noticed that if he saw policemen, he would go inside the house. He later would ask his aunt if the police had passed by, which would mean that he was safe. (36)

Past Life Behavior: Sujith has Sammy’s Tendency to be Violent

Sammy was perceived as fearless and Sujith demonstrated a total lack of inhibition. Both had a tendency towards being violent.

Ian Stevenson witnessed Sujith kick one of the neighbors with “great zeal and persistence,” and he also saw Sujith hit another individual, who was minding his own business, with a fist. Stevenson also saw Sujith spit on his grandmother.

Wattarappola said he had seen Sujith push his mother into a corner and then pummel her, saying this is how the police assault. Sujith’s aunt said that when scolded, Sujith would sometimes threaten to stab the offender with a knife.

Despite these aggressive traits, Sujith also demonstrated generosity, much like Sammy. (37)

Sujith has Sexual Feelings for Maggie, his Past Life Wife, then Wounds Her, Like Sammy

Another parallel occurred in relation to Maggie. In July 1973, when Sujith was almost 4 years old, he announced that he was going to go to Maggie’s house and not return. He said he would sleep at Maggie’s house, and the family got the impression that his intention was not just to sleep.

After Maggie met Sujith, she became fond of him and visited Sujith in Mount Lavinia quite often. After a period of time, she discontinued her visits, explaining that Sujith had become rude.

In contrast, when Kusuma Dabare was to be married, she invited Sujith and his family to her wedding. Recall that when Sammy got drunk, fought with Maggie and left their house, he would seek refuge at his parent’s home, where Kusume would cook hot meals for him. (38)

Xenoglossy: Expletives from a Past Lifetime

Sujith’s family was very proper. As such, they were very surprised to find that Sujith had an extensive vocabulary of obscene words. Sammy had a habit of swearing and shouting obscenities when drunk.

Ian Stevenson went so far as positing that this could be equated to xenoglossy, in which an individual knows a foreign language that was not learned in the contemporary lifetime. Stevenson reasoned that Sujith’s extensive vocabulary of expletives could not have been learned at home, given the respectable character of his mother and grandmother. Sujith’s father had left the family soon after Sujith was born, so there were no others who could have taught the toddler these expletives. (39)

Reincarnation & Similar Appearance Across Lifetimes

A similarity in physical appearance was noted between Sammy and Sujith. Even the way they walked, their gait, was the same. (40)

A Christian Relative believes Sujith is the Reincarnation of Sammy and Sujith gives Sammy’s Son Goosebumps

IISISReincarnation CaseschristianityreincarnationpastlivescrossThough both Sammy’s and Sujith’s families were Buddhists, Sammy’s son in law, Sri Nimal Rodrigo, was Christian. He stated:

“I am a Roman Catholic and do not believe in rebirth, but from what I saw of Sujith and his recognitions I am convinced that he is Sammy reborn.” (41)

Another episode that demonstrates the power of Sujith’s recognitions involves Sunil Fernando, Sammy’s illegitimate son. Sunil came to meet Sujith at Mount Lavinia. Sunil was a complete stranger to Sujith’s family and he did not introduce himself to anyone. Sujith recognized him and said, “Come here, Sunil.”

Sunil said that Sujith’s recognition of him gave him “a terrible shock,” as well as gooseflesh. (42)

Sujith’s Later Development and Past Life Drinking Behavior

As Sujith surpassed 6 years of age, he no longer talked about his previous life as Sammy, he no longer used obscenities and he became less violent. Still, when he saw people drinking arrack, he would propose that he should have some himself. (43)

Understanding Past Lives & Principles of Reincarnation

Physical Resemblance from one lifetime to another: It was noted that there exists a similarity in physical appearance between Sammy and Sujith, as well as in their gaits.

Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation: Sammy was reborn as Sujith in Mount Lavinia, which is 5 miles or 7 kilometers from Gorankana, the town where Sammy had lived. After Sujith shared his past life memories, his family was able to find Sujith’s past life family and he was reunited with Sammy’s family, his past life wife and past life drinking companions.

Phobia from a Past Lifetime: Sujith had a severe phobia of trucks and even as an 8 month old infant demonstrated a marked fear of the word “lorry,” which is explained by the fact that Sammy was killed by a truck. Sujith also had an aversion to policemen due to his being incarcerated, as Sammy, multiple times.

Xenoglossy: Ian Stevenson felt that Sujith’s extensive vocabulary of expletives or cuss words qualified for xenoglossy, as there was not way that Sujith learned this language from the two very proper women who raised him.

Child Reincarnation Stories of Daw Aye Phyu | Ma Nyunt Nyunt San and Daw Sapai | Ma San San Nyunt:

The story of two Burmese sisters Phyu and Saipai who reincarnated as twin sisters San and Nyunt. A proof of reincarnation emphasized by the exceptionally significant physical resemblance of the persons in both lifetime.

Past Life Stories of Sisters Phyu and Saipai & the Twins San and Nyunt: Sisters Reincarnate as Twins

IISISPhyuSaipaiTwinReincarnationCasesThis set of cases involves two Burmese sisters who reincarnated as twin sisters, in which images demonstrate physical resemblances from one lifetime to another. As their names can be confusing for those who are not Burmese, I will abbreviate them for use in this narrative, utilizing the last word in their sequence of their names. As such, the names that will be used are defined below:

Daw Aye Phyu, the dominant past life sister, will be referred to as Phyu.

Daw Sapai, the younger and married past life sister, will be referred to as Sapai.

Ma Nyunt Nyunt San, the dominant twin, who has been identified as the reincarnation of Daw Aye Phyu, will be referred to as San.

Ma San San Nyunt, who has been identified as the reincarnation of Sapai, will be referred to as Nyunt.

The Lives and of Daw Aye Phyu and Daw Sapai

Daw Aye Phyu was the older sister and was born in 1869 or 1870, in the Burmese village of Seikcho, which had a population of about 500 people. She expected respect from those younger than her and would not allow anyone to talk back to her, which made her appear as a dominant individual. Phyu never married. She died in 1962 at the age of 92.

Her sister, Daw Sapai was born around 1881. She eventually married and lived in the same compound in Seikcho as Phyu, though in a different house. Sapai had a son named U Htun Su who liked to drink and gamble, which his mother did not approve of. Sapai had a grand-daughter named Ma Nge, who she called by the pet name of “Min Nge.” Sapai died in 1961 at the age of 80.

Both sisters were pious Buddhists and were engaged in compassionate acts, such as building shelters for pilgrims and founding a small monastery. They were very close to one another.

They had a distant male relative, U Bo Kay, a policeman, who regarded the elderly sisters as his aunts. During their final illnesses U Bo Kay cared for them, brought physicians to tend to them and bought medicines for them.

Sisters are Reincarnated as Twins

IISISPhyuSaipaiTwinReincarnationCasesAbout two years after Phyu and Sapai died twin sisters were born in 1964 to U Bo Kay and his wife, Dwa Thein Yin, who we will refer to Yin. They were named Ma Nyunt Nyunt San and Ma San San Nyunt. Nyunt was born 20 minutes before San. The twins were born in the city of Yanaung, which had a population of 5000 and was about 4 km from Seikcho. Ian Stevenson believed that the twins were fraternal or dizygotic, as they had different facial features, though testing was not performed to confirm this.

Nyunt says She is from the Kokka Tree

When the twins were about two years old, their mother, Yin, ask them in jest,

“How is it that you both came to trouble me?” (11) Nyunt responded that she came from the kokka tree, which in translation means the acacia tree. This puzzled Yin, as there were no kokka trees in their area.

When the twins were three or four years old, someone mentioned the name of the U Htun Su, Sapai’s son. Nyunt then said testily that he should not be allowed to come to Yanaung because he “is a gambler” and “spend up all my property.” (12) Yin, realizing that Nyunt seem to be remembering the lifetime of Daw Sapai, asked her husband whether there are kokka trees in Seikcho. He confirmed that there were.

The Twins Remember their Past Life Names

About this time, the twins themselves said that they came from Seikcho. They said that they had put up water stands for travelers. Recall that Phyu and Sapai had put up shelters for travelers, which could’ve also included water stands.

In 1978, at the age of 5, the twins gave the names of the two sisters, Daw Aye Phyu and Daw Sapai, whose lives they seemed to be remembering. Yin, their mother, then showed the twins a photograph of the sisters. San said that Phyu was her and Nyunt said that the photograph of Saipai was of her. Yin said that subsequently the twins often talked about their previous lives to each other and they seem to be very attached to one another.

Past Life Behavior: Phyu | San have the Same Traits Relative to Sapai | Nyunt

It was noted that of the twins, San was more dominant, darker in complexion and lighter in build than Nyunt. These traits correspond to those of the past life sisters, as Phyu was also dominant, darker in complexion and lighter in build than Sapai. One difference is that in the past lifetimes, Phyu was the older sister, while in their contemporary lifetimes, San, the reincarnation of Phyu, was born 20 minutes after Nyunt.

The Twins visit their Past Life Homes

The twins were eventually taken to Seikcho with their parents and each twin went to their respective past life home. San saw that her past life home was being remodeled and complained, “My house is being demolished” (13) Inside the houses, when they saw photographs of Phyu and Sapai, they said they wanted to keep them.

Nyunt meets her Prodigal Past Life Son and Past Life Granddaughter

During their visit to their past life homes, Sapai’s son, U Htun Su, witnessed the proceedings, including Nyunt identifying herself as Saipai, his deceased mother. Nyunt then said to U Htun Su, “I don’t want to see you.” (14) In November 1980, Ian Stevenson asked Nyunt, when she was six years old, how she felt about U Htun Su. She replied, “I regard him as my son.” She then added that he gambled money. Stevenson asked if she had forgiven him. She replied, “I have gotten over my dislike of him.” In contrast, U Htun Su felt that both twins were unfriendly to him. (15)

In Seikcho, Nyunt made a significant recognition when she saw her past life granddaughter Min Ng approaching. Nyunt then made the statement:

“Min Nge is coming.” (16) Subsequently, the twins showed a strong interest in repeatedly being taken to Seikcho and later in childhood, they often went there on their own. When scolded, they even threaten to leave home and “return” to Seikcho. Nyunt would even pack her possessions to take with her to Seikcho, but the twins were prevented from moving.

Understanding Past Lives & Principles of Reincarnation

Physical Resemblance: There is a marked resemblance between and Daw Aye Phyu and her reincarnation, Ma Nyunt Nyunt San, as well as between Daw Sapai and her reincarnation, Ma San San Nyunt. Though there was thought to be a distant familial relationship between the sisters and the twins, which could account for physical resemblance, it is significant that the twins matched their past life personas specifically in both physical appearance and personality.

Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation: The elderly sisters, who were very close, reincarnated as twin sisters. Ian Stevenson noted that it appeared that the reason for their reincarnation as twins was affection. As noted before, Ian Stevenson’s research involving 31 sets of twins showed that in all cases, the twins had significant past life relationships. The most common type of past life relationship was of siblings, which was observed in this set of cases.

Planning of Lifetimes: The sisters not only reincarnated as twins, they were born to the wife of U Bo Kay, who considered the elderly sisters as his aunts and took good care of them during their final illnesses. As such, it appears that from the spirit world, the sisters chose to incarnate into the family of an individual who loved them,

Child Reincarnation Story of Alessandrina Samona 1 and 2

A child Alessandrina died of meningitis at a very young age of 5, who later reincarnated as her younger sister. A reincarnation research case showing proof of reincarnation within the same family by Dr. Ian Stevenson, MD.

Alessandrina Dies of Meningitis

ReincarnationEviidenceBabyCamelo Samona was a medical physician in Palermo, Italy, who in 1911 published a report regarding a reincarnation case involving his daughter, Alessandrina. Carmelo’s wife’s name was Adele and in addition to their daughter, they had three sons.

Alessandrina contracted meningitis at the age of about 5 and she died on March 15, 1910.

From the Spirit Realm, Alessandrina Communicates through a Dream

Three days after Alessandrina’s death, her mother, Adele, had a dream of her dead daughter who said.

“Mother, do not cry, I have not left you, only withdrawn. Look! I am going to become small like this.” In the dream, Alessandria then made a gesture to indicate the size of a baby. She then said, “You will have to suffer again for me.” (1)

As a Spirit, Alessandrina Knocks on the Door

IISISReincarnationKnockDoor

Three days later, Adele had the same dream. A few days after these dreams, Camelo and Adele both heard three loud knocks at their door. Their three sons also heard the knocks. The family opened the door, but no one was there.

On April 10, 1910, less than a month after Alessandrina had died, Adele realized she was pregnant. Due to the dreams and the knocks on the door, Camelo and Adele decided to participate in séances, hoping to better understand what was going on.

Alessandrina Communicates from the Spirit World

On May 4, 1910, Camelo and Adele participated in a mediumistic seance. In these sessions, a medium would pass on information from deceased individuals, souls in the spirit world, to the human beings who participated in the séance. Often times, deceased relatives of participants would communicate through the medium.

In a seance, Alessandrina came through and said that she had caused the there knocks on the door to draw attention to herself. She told her parents that she was coming back and that she would be born before Christmas. She said she would be very similar to before. She repeatedly said that she wanted all her family and friends to know that she was returning. Alessandrina said this so many times that Carmelo found it annoying.

ReincarnationEviidenceTwinsIn the seances, Adele and Camelo were also told that a second soul was around them and that this soul would be born with Alessandrina. In other words, Adele would have twins.

Through the medium, Alessandrina also told Adele and Camelo that after the third month of pregnancy, Alessandrina would not be able to communicate through the séances as she would be more attached to matter and as a result, would be sleeping.

Prophecies Come True & Reincarnation with Physical Resemblance

In August 1910, an obstetrician determined that Adele was indeed pregnant with twins. On November 22, 1910, twin girls were born. Adele and Camelo immediately realized that one of the girls bore an uncanny resemblance to Alessandrina. Due to the physical resemblance, they also called this girl Alessandrina, who we will refer to as Alessandrina 2. They named the other fraternal twin girl Maria. We will refer to the deceased daughter as Alessandrina 1.

ReincarnationEvidenceBarber

Adele and Camelo noted marked similarities in appearance and behavior between Alessandrina 1 and 2, which contrasted with the appearance and behavior of Maria. When the girls where two and a half years old, Camelo published a report outlining these similarities and differences. They include the following.

Alessandrina 1 & 2 Have the Same Personality Traits & Reincarnation Phobias of Loud Noises & Barbers

At birth, Alessandrina 1 and 2 both had redness in the left eye, a rash called seborrhea behind the right ear and slight facial asymmetry. Maria did not have these features.

As toddlers, Alessandrina 1 and 2 were both quiet and liked to sit quietly in their mother’s lap. They didn’t like to play with toys, but they did like to play with other children. Maria, in contrast, was restless and liked to be on her own, playing with toys.

Alessandrina 1 and 2 had phobias of loud noises and of barbers, and they both disliked any cheese. They liked to fold and smooth clothing and cloth, such as sheets and towels. They both liked to play with shoes and put adult shoes on. Maria didn’t have phobias of noise or barbers and she liked cheese. She didn’t like to fold cloth or play with shoes.

Alessandrina 1 and 2 tended to speak in the third person. When fearful, they would say, “Alessandrina is afraid. (2) They also like to create pet names. For example, Aunt Cateria became Caterana. (3). They were both left handed, became interested in spiritual matters, but avoided housework.

Maria, in contrast, did not speak in the third person, didn’t modify names, was right-handed (like all the other family members) and wasn’t interested in spiritual affairs, but she did like housekeeping.

Photographs Confirm Alessandrina 1 & 2 Reincarnation Resemblance

5iisisalessandrinasamonareincarnationIn his report, Camelo published photos comparing Alessandrina 1 when she was almost 4 years old to Alessandrina 2 and Maria when the twins were 2 years old. The images showed that indeed, Alessandrina 1 and 2 both had the same facial asymmetry, in that the left eye was significantly closer to the midline than the right. The folds of the eyelids were similarly asymmetric. Adele thought that in physical appearance, Alessandrina 2 matched Alessandrina 1 “perfectly,” except that 1 was darker in complexion. (4)

Alessandrina 2 Remembers the Past Life Visit of Alessandrina 1 to the Church in Monreale & the Priests Who Wore Red

Camelo also reported a past life memory that Alessandrina 2 had when she was 8 or 9 years old. Camelo and Adele proposed to their children that they take a vacation trip to the city of Monreale, where they would tour the great Norman church in that city. Adele said to their girls:

“When you go to Monreale, you will see some sights you have never seen before.”

Alessandrina 2 then responded:

“But Mama, I know Monreale. I have already seen it.” (5)

Adele then told her daughter that she had never been to Monreale. Alessandriana 2 then protested:

IISISReincarnationEviidenceMonreale“Yes I have. I have been there. Don’t you remember that there is a great church there with a huge man on the roof with his arms spread out? And do you not remember how we went there with a lady who had horns, and we met some small priests who wore red?” (6)

Adele and Camelo were stunned by their daughter’s response. They did not recall ever speaking to her about Monreale and they were puzzled by her reference to a woman who had horns.

Adele then remembered that a few months before Alessandriana 1’s death, they had taken to her to Monreale to see the church there. On this trip, they had taken a female friend who had a skin condition that involved prominent, protruding lesions or bumps on the forehead, which could be interpreted by a child as horns.

Adele also recalled that just as they were entering the church, they met Orthodox priests who were wearing blue robes decorated with red. Adele and Camelo also remembered that Alessandrina 1 took great notice of the woman with the skin condition on her forehead and by the priests they had met at the church.

Is This a Reincarnation Case?

IISISReincarnationEviidenceMonrealeChurchThe similarities in physical appearance and behavior between Alessandrina 1 and 2 could be explained by genetics, as they were born from the same parents.

A factor that supports that the similarities are related to the reincarnation includes observations of spirit being guidance. Adele had dreams in which Alessandrina 1 said she would be reborn to Adele. In addition, Adele participated in seances in which Alessandrina 1 said that she would be reborn with a twin, which came true.

The shared phobias of barbers and of loud noises support Alessandrina 2 being the reincarnation of Alessandrina 1.

Most importantly, Alessandrina 2 had memories of the visit to the church in Monreale, of the woman with horns on her forehead and the monks in robes with red, which all correspond to events that occurred in the life of Alessandrina 1.

Understanding Past Lives & Principles of Reincarnation

Physical appearance remains the same from one incarnation to another.

Personality traits remain consistent. As toddlers, Alessandrina 1 and 2 were both quiet and liked to sit quietly in their mother’s lap. They didn’t like to play with toys, but they did like to play with other children. They both disliked any cheese, liked to fold and smooth clothing and cloth, such as sheets and towels, and they liked to play with shoes and put adult shoes on. Alessandrina 1 and 2 tended to speak in the third person. They also like to create pet names. Maria, the sister of Alessandrina 2, did not share these traits.

Phobia from a Past Lifetime: This case demonstrates that phobias can persist from one incarnation to another, as Alessandrina 1 and 2 both had phobias of loud noises and of barbers.

Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation: This case shows that souls can reincarnate in the same family.

Spirit Being Involvement: Alessandrina 1 was able to predict from the spirit world, through a medium, of her coming birth with a twin sister before Christmas, which did occur.

According to Alessandrina 1, after three months of pregnancy the soul becomes more closely attached to the physical plane, to the extent that communication between the soul and humans, through mediums, becomes more difficult. In short, the soul becomes more attached to the fetus at three months of pregnancy.

Split Incarnation: If it is assumed that the soul is involved with the fetus from the time of conception, this represents a case of split incarnation, as Alessandrina 2 was born only 8 months after the death of Alessandrina 1. In other words, the soul of the Alessandrinas was already involved with the fetus of Alessandrina 2, while Alessandrina 1 was still alive.

This type of split incarnation case, in which a soul is involved with a pregnancy while it animates a living person at the same time, was also observed in the Hanan Monsour | Suzanne Ghanem reincarnation case, which was also researched by Ian Stevenson, MD.

Reincarnation Case of Suresh Verma | Titu Singh & Video

A child reincarnation story case of Dr. Ian Stevenson MD. with reincarnation birthmarks and physical resemblance. This is the story of the child Sureh Verma who reincarnated as Titu Singh who has the birthmark on the spot of his past life’s injury which had cut short his young life.

Reincarnation Birthmarks & Past Life Scars Provide Evidence of Reincarnation
Reincarnation Birthmarks & Past Life Scars Provide Evidence of Reincarnation

The case of Titu Singh that appeared in the London-based magazine, Reincarnation International, is one of the more fascinating cases of double birthmarks. This story was first broadcast in 1990 on the BBC TV news program Forty Minutes. The case of Titu who named names and details of his own murder made for exciting TV drama, all true. Place your cursor on images to enlarge.

Titu Singh Remembers his Past Life Name, Wife, Shop & Death

Titu Singh was two and a half years old when he began to tell his family of his other life in Agra, a city in northern India. His memories were quite specific: he said that he had been the owner of a radio, TV and video shop, his name was Suresh Verma, he had a wife named Uma and two children. He also said that he had been shot, then cremated, and his ashes had been thrown in the river.

His parents didn’t take him seriously at first, but his behavior puzzled them–he often behaved as if he wasn’t part of their family. “Titu is just an ordinary child, but sometimes he says and does things that only adults do,” said his father.

Titu Threatens to Run Away to his Past Life Home

Repeatedly, Titu would tell his parents that he was homesick and wanted to go back to Agra. Once, he became so insistent about leaving, that he rolled his clothes into a bundle and threatened to leave home. This behavior was also observed in the: Reincarnation Cases of Burmese Twins

Titu’s Past Life Shop & Wife are Found

Titu’s older brother decided to travel to Agra to check out his young brother’s claims. He found a TV, radio and video shop called Suresh Radio, which was run by a widow named Uma whose husband had been shot, just as Titu had described. The shop is pictured to the right. The murder occurred in August 1983. The brother approached Uma and explained how his little brother claimed to be her deceased husband. This information made Uma feel very odd.

Titu Spontaneously Recognizes his Past Life Wife, Uma, & Past Life Brothers

She decided to visit the Singh family the next day and see what truth there was in this young child’s report. When the Verma family arrived unannounced, Titu was outside washing at the tap and spotted them first. He recognized them immediately and shouted to his parents that his “other family” had come.

They invited the visitors to sit on the veranda and Titu asked Uma to sit near him–an odd way for a five-year-old in India to relate to a grown woman. He asked about the children, and then stunned the widow by recounting the details of a family outing to a fair in a neighboring village where Suresh had bought her sweets, information that only she could have known. Titu later described burying gold in a hole in the house.

5 Titu Singh Mother Past Life Scar or Birthmark Reincarnation Case-Suresh Radio

It was then arranged that Titu be taken to Agra. When he and his entourage arrived, it had been arranged for Suresh’s two children to be playing among many other neighborhood children as a test for Titu. Titu recognized them immediately, singling them out from their playmates.

Upon entering the Suresh Radio shop, Titu correctly identified changes made to the shop since Suresh’s death. In the adjacent image, Titu is in his past life radio store with his past life wife, Uma, who is at the far right with hands folded.

Suresh’s Parents are Certain that Titu is the Reincarnation of Suresh

Both families played out the ongoing drama of Titu. Titu’s parents had mixed feelings about his relationship with his former family. His mother, who had five older children, didn’t mind him talking about his other parents and former family. She explained, “I feel as though we are all part of the same family. I am comforted by his childish loyalty, saying that although he has parents elsewhere we will always be his real parents. But Titu complains I wear old clothes. He says he used to buy Uma expensive saris.” Titu’s father said he was afraid that when Titu is older, he might break ties with them and go to live with his other family.

Suresh’s parents are certain that Titu is their dead son Suresh reincarnated. His father said, “Titu clings to us with affection. Once in the street he came across a former nanny. She thought Titu was one of Uma’s sons. Titu got annoyed at her saying, ‘Don’t you know who I am?’” The father of Suresh added, “We talk to each other like father and son. But I don’t encourage it too much because it upsets his real parents.”

Reincarnation Birthmarks: Saresh’s Bullet Wounds are Reflected in Titu’s Birthmarks

Reincarnation Birthmarks & Past Life Scars Provide Evidence of Reincarnation
Reincarnation Birthmarks & Past Life Scars Provide Evidence of Reincarnation

Back to the murder: Titu accurately described how Suresh had been shot in the head at night while sitting in his car after arriving home from work. This was corroborated by Uma. The TV cameras showed the autopsy report of Suresh Verma, which confirmed that he had been shot in the head and died from a bullet wound to the right temple. The autopsy showed the exact size and location of the wound, and the exit wound on the opposite side of Suresh’s head.

Then they showed Titu’s hair being shaved to reveal a birthmark—”a round, indented shape which coincided exactly with the location of the entry wound of the bullet that killed Suresh Verma. The camera also showed a second birthmark on the other side of Titu’s head that coincided exactly with the exit wound.

Titu told more details of the murder to an Agra court and was able to “convince the authorities that he was the reincarnation of the murder victim.” The outcome of the case was not given in this account, but N. K. Chadha, a professor at Delhi University who researched the case, was quoted as saying, “Because of the police involvement, this is one of the very best documented cases of seeming reincarnation I have seen.”

If this reincarnation is accepted, it demonstrates the following features:

Principles of Reincarnation & Understanding Past Lives

Physical Resemblance in Reincarnation Cases: The facial architecture of Suresh and Titu are similar.

Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation: Suresh reincarnated as Titu not far from his past life home, which allowed Suresh to be reunited with his past life family.

Reincarnation Birthmarks: Titu has an indentation on his right temple. Suresh’s autopsy report revealed that a the bullet had entered Suresh’s head at exactly that place. Where the bullet had exited Suresh’s head, there was a mole on Titu’s head at the same location.

Childhood Past Life Memory Reincarnation Story of Rashid Khaddege | Daniel Jurdi

Ian Stevenson, MD studied Daniel Jurdi, who had validated spontaneous past life memories of being Rashid Khaddage, as a child in the 1970’s. Dr. Stevenson revisited Daniel in 1998. He found that Daniel, now a full grown adult, has the same facial features as his past life persona, Rashid Khaddege.

Rashid Dies After Ibrahim Crashes a Car

Rashid Khaddege was an auto mechanic who lived in a town named Kfarmatta (pronounced fur-mat-ta), in Lebanon. Rashid was born in 1943. When he was 25, in 1968, a friend named Ibrahim picked him up to go on a car ride. Ibrahim sped towards the Mediterranean Sea and at a place called Military Beach, Ibrahim lost control of the car. Rashid was thrown from the vehicle, incurred head trauma, and was instantly killed.

Past Life Memories: Little Daniel Calls for Ibrahim and Naim, his Past Life Father

Over a year later, Daniel Jurdi was born. His father was Yusuf Jurdi and his mother Latifeh. Daniel’s earliest word was “Ibrahim.” At the age of two, he told his mother, Latifeh, “I want to go home.” At two and one half, Daniel made the statements, “This is not my house. You are not my mother. I don’t have a father. My father died.” Daniel’s mother recalled, “He would not call Yusuf daddy.” “He called him by name.” Further, Daniel said, “My father was Naim.” Naim was Rashid Khaddege’s father. (1)

At two and a half years of age, at a family picnic, a relative tried to pronounce the name of the town Kfarmatta. Daniel intervened and correctly pronounced the name of the town. When his father asked how he knew the name of the town, Daniel replied, “I am from Kfarmatta.”(2)

Past Life Memories: Daniel Remembers Dying at Military Beach

When Daniel and his mother were driving in Beirut, they passed the place on the sea called Military Beach. Daniel shut his eyes, hiding them with his hands, and started crying. He then screamed, “This is where I died.” As noted, this spot at Military Beach was indeed where Rashid Khaddege died. (3)

Daniel also related that in his prior lifetime, he was mechanic. Regarding the accident, Daniel said that Ibrahim was speeding and lost control of the car. Daniel said “I flew out of the car and landed on my head.” When help came to assist the injured, Daniel said that he heard someone say, “Leave this one, he’s dead.” (4)

Past Life Behavior: Daniel Pinches & Propositions his Nursery School Teacher

IISIS daniel jurdi reincarnation past life ian stevenson semkiw L

In nursery school, Daniel told teachers his name was Rashid Khaddege. In another incident at the nursery school, little Daniel pinched an attractive young teacher and made a suggestive remark. Daniel, as a child, was behaving like the adult Rashid.

Eventually, Daniel’s father sent an acquaintance to Kfarmatta, to inquire about someone fitting Daniel’s description of a mechanic who died in an auto accident at Military Beach. The Khaddeges heard about the story and visited Daniel.

Daniel Recognizes his Past Life Sister Najla, his Past Life Friends Ibrahim & Jijad & He Still Loves Bananas, a Past Life Favorite Food

When Ian Stevenson interviewed the two families in 1979, both said that upon their initial meeting, Daniel instantly recognized Rashid’s sister, Najla, and called her by name. When the families met, Daniel told his mother to bring bananas for the guests. Rashid loved bananas and his mother and sister stopped eating bananas after his death, because bananas reminded them of their loss of Rashid. Later on, during a visit to Kfarmatta, Daniel also spontaneously recognized Ibrahim, as well as Jijad, Rashid’s hunting buddy.

The Khaddege Family Keeps a Cot for their Past Life Son Daniel

Rashid’s family accepted Daniel as their son from a previous lifetime. They have a picture of him at their home and keep a bed for Daniel, who visits one to two times a month. Daniel has married and works as an accountant.

Daniel’s Past Life Phobia of Fast Cars

Daniel has a phobia of speeding cars, which reflects the psychological trauma incurred by Rashid in the crash at Military Beach.

In the images provided above, Daniel Jurdi is holding a photograph of his own past life persona, of Rashid Khaddege. Click on the images to enlarge and your arrow keys to scroll up and down on the image. Like in the case of Suzanne Ghanem, which was also researched by Ian Stevenson, MD, a strong physical resemblance is evident. These Stevenson cases support the premise that facial features can remain consistent from one incarnation to another.

Understanding Past Lives & Principles of Reincarnation

This extremely compelling reincarnation case demonstrates the following features:

Physical Resemblance in Reincarnation Cases: Daniel Jurdi has the same facial features as his past life persona, Rashid Khaddege.

Ian Stevenson, MD
Ian Stevenson, MD

It is significant to note that Ian Stevenson first studied Daniel in Lebanon in 1979, when Daniel was 10 years old. He revisited Daniel in 1998 when he traveled to Lebanon with Tom Schroder, a journalist with the Washington Post, who was writing a book on Stevenson. In 1998, Daniel was now 29 years old and it was only at this point in time that Stevenson realized that Daniel has the same facial features as Rashid. This study shows that we continue to accumulate new evidence involving cases that have been evolving over decades.

An American case in which photos are available across two lifetimes that dramatically shows physical resemblance is:

Reincarnation Case of James Huston Jr. | James Leininger

Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation: Daniel’s past life family, the Khaddeges, have accepted him as the reincarnation Rashid and they have kept a bed for him, so that he could stay with them.

Phobia from a Past Lifetime: Daniel had a fear of fast-moving cars, which appears to stem from his past life death as Rashid Khaddege who died in a car crash.

Spirit Beings in Reincarnation Cases: Daniel said he remembered that after being thrown from the car, a person who came to assist the victims said, “Leave this one, he’s dead.” (4) This memory implies that Daniel, as a spirit being, was able to witness events after his death as Rashid.

Childhood Past Life Memory Reincarnation Story of Hanan Monsour | Suzanne Ghanem

Ian Stevenson, MD studied Suzanne Ghanem, who had validated spontaneous past life memories of being Hanan Monsour, as a child in the 1960’s. Dr. Stevenson revisited Suzanne in 1998. He found that Suzanne, now a full grown adult, has the same facial features as her past life persona, Hanan Monsour.

Reincarnation Physical ResemblanceResearcher: Ian Stevenson, MD

From: Old Souls, by Tom Shroder

Article by: Walter Semkiw, MD from  & Born Again and Return of the Revolutionaries

Hanan was born in Lebanon, in the mid-1930s. When she was twenty, she married Farouk Monsour, a member of a well to do Lebanese family. The couple had two daughters, named Leila and Galareh. Hanan had a brother named Nabih, who became prominent in Lebanese society, but died as a young man in a plane crash.

After having her second daughter, Hanan developed a heart problem and her doctors advised her not to have any more children. Not heeding the warning, she had a third child, a son, in 1962. In 1963, shortly after the death of her brother Nabih, Hanan’s health started to deteriorate. She then started to talk about dying. Farouk, Hanan’s husband, said that Hanan told him that “she was going to be reincarnated and have lots to say about her previous life.”(1) This was two years before her death.

Before her Death, Hanan Tries to Telephone Leila

At age of thirty-six, Hanan traveled to Richmond, Virginia, to have heart surgery. She tried to telephone her daughter Leila before the operation, but couldn’t get through. Hanan died of complications the day after surgery.

Spiritual Communication: An Announcing Dream from the Spirit Realm5 Ghanem Phone

Ten days after Hanan died, Suzanne Ghanem was born. Suzanne’s mother told Ian Stevenson that shortly before Suzanne’s birth, “I dreamed I was going to have a baby girl. I met a woman and I kissed and hugged her. She said, ‘I am going to come to you.’ The woman was about forty. Later, when I saw Hanan’s picture, I thought it looked like the woman in my dream.”(2)

In other words, Suzanne Ghanem’s mother had a dream that she would have a child that had the appearance of Hanan Monsour, and this dream became a reality.

Hanan Reincarnates as Suzanne Monsour & Tries to Telephone her Past Life Daughter Leila

At 16 months of age, Suzanne pulled the phone off the hook as if she was trying to talk into it and said, over and over, “Hello, Leila?” The family didn’t know who Leila was. When she got older, Suzanne explained that Leila was one of her children and that she was not Suzanne, but Hanan. The family asked, “Hanan what?” Suzanne replied, “My head is still small. Wait until it is bigger, and I might tell you.”(3)

Past Life Memories: Suzanne Identifies & Names 13 Past Life Family Members

By the time she was two, she had mentioned the names of her other children, her husband, Farouk, and the names of her parents and her brothers from the previous lifetime—thirteen names in all.

In trying to locate Suzanne’s past life family, acquaintances of the Ghanems made inquiries in the town where the Monsours lived. When they heard about the case, the Monsours visited Suzanne. The Monsours were initially skeptical about the girl’s claims. They became believers when Suzanne identified all of Hanan’s relatives, picking them out and naming them accurately. Suzanne also knew that Hanan had given her jewels to her brother Hercule in Virginia, prior to her heart surgery, and that Hanan instructed her brother to divide the jewelry among her daughters. No one outside of the Monsour family knew about the jewels.

Before she could read or write, Suzanne scribbled a phone number on a piece of paper. Later, when the family went to the Monsour’s home, they found that the phone number matched the Monsour’s number, except that the last two digits were transposed. As a child, Suzanne could recite the oration spoken at the funeral of Hanan’s brother, Nabih. Suzanne’s family taped the recitation, though the tape was eventually lost.

Reincarnation Physical ResemblanceSuzanne Still Loves Farouk, her Past Life Husband

At five years of age, Suzanne would call Farouk three times a day. When Suzanne visited Farouk, she would sit on his lap and rest her head against his chest. At 25 years of age, Suzanne would still telephone Farouk.

Suzanne Identifies Past Life Friends from Photos

Farouk, a career policeman, has accepted Suzanne as the reincarnation of his deceased wife, Hanan. To support this conclusion, Farouk points out that from photographs, Suzanne accurately picked out scores of people they had been acquainted with, and knew other information that only Hanan would have known.

In this image comparison, Hanan Monsour is on the left side and Suzanne Ghanem is on the right. A striking physical resemblance is noted, which supports the premise that facial features can remain consistent from one incarnation to another. The image can be enlarged by clicking on it. Understanding Past Lives & Principles of Reincarnation

This extremely compelling reincarnation case demonstrates the following features:

Ian Stevenson, MD

Physical Resemblance from One Lifetime to Another: Suzanne Ghamen has the same facial features as Hanan Monsour, her past life personality.

It is significant to note that Ian Stevenson first studied Suzanne in Lebanon when she was only a small child in the late 1960s. He revisited Suzanne in 1998 when he traveled to Lebanon with Tom Schroder, a journalist with the Washington Post who was writing a book on Stevenson. In 1998, Suzanne was now 35 years old and it was only at this point in time that Stevenson realized that Suzanne has the same facial features as Hanan Monsour. This occurred approximately 30 years after Stevenson first studied Suzanne in the 1960s. The point is that we are continuing to accumulate new evidence involving cases that have been evolving over decades.

An American case in which photos are available over two lifetimes that dramatically shows physical resemblance is:

Reincarnation Case of James Huston, Jr. | James Leininger

Spirit Being Involvement: Hanan announced her upcoming birth to her future mother in a dream. In addition, Hanan’s soul appears to have known that Hanan would die prematurely and be reborn with memories of her past lifetime, as Hanan predicted this turn of events to her husband, Farouk. In his series of 1200 validated children’s past life memory cases, announcing dreams were observed in 22 percent of these cases.

Relationships Renewed through Reincarnation: As Suzanne, Hanan was reunited with the Monsours, her past life family, and demonstrated love and affection for Farouk, her past life husband.

Split Incarnation: Suzanne was born only 10 days after Hanan died. If it is assumed that the soul is involved in the development of the fetus, then the soul of Hanan was animating Suzanne’s fetus while Hanan was still alive. This overlap of lifetimes occurred for almost the entire duration of Suzanne’s gestation.

Sri Lankan Rebels who Reincarnated as Twin Girls

The Early Lives of Johnny, Robert and Gnananadasa

A.K. Nandadasa Johnny was born in 1945 in Unawatuna, a coastal town in the district of Galle, at the southern tip of Sri Lanka.  Unawatuna Beach is pictured above and to the right. He was known by all as “Johnny.” His father was Pedric Appuhamy and mother Sisel Hamy. Johnny had a brother named Gnananadasa, who was three years younger than Johnny.

In 1946, Akmeemana Palliyagurunge Robert, who went by the name “Robert,” was born in the same town. His parents were A. Dharmasena and Mary Nona. Robert did not have a good relationship with his father, but he was very close to his mother.

Johnny and Robert became best friends in childhood.  They played cards, excelled at swimming and diving in the sea, as well as climbing trees.  They were both born to poor families.  Johnny and Robert were Buddhists and they worshipped at the temple at Yatigala.  Robert was the more devout of the two.

Johnny obtained work in a factory in the city of Galle that made frames for eyeglasses.  Johnny acquired a primitive house in the jungle on Romassala Hill, not far from a cliff overlooking the sea. Robert left school while in the ninth grade and he took temporary jobs as a mason and laborer. He later worked in a battery factory.

Johnny’s Friend Amarapala

At the spectacle frame factory, Johnny befriended a man named Amarapala Hettiaratchi. Both Johnny and Robert traveled to the village of Pitadeniya, 14 kilometers north of Galle, to attend the wedding of Amarapala and his wife, Yasawathie, which occurred on October 20, 1966. The couple lived in Pitadeniya, though Amarapala worked at the factory in the city of Galle.

The Rebellion of 1971

Due to the divide between the wealthy and the poor, a movement towards rebellion brewed in Sri Lanka. In the District of Galle, Johnny, a gifted speaker, became a rebel leader, with Robert his second in command.  Due to its’ remoteness, Romassala Hill became a rebel training ground.  Food and supplies were stockpiled in Johnny’s house.

Robert was in charge of acquiring weapons. From his experience in the battery factory, Robert learned how to make homemade bombs. Their bombs were tested at the beach of Utawatuna.  The rebellion was launched on April 5, 1971. Rebels raided police stations at night, when officers were asleep, to neutralize the police and to seize weapons.

Woman with a Radio in Yaddehimulla

A woman Johnny and Robert knew, who lived in Yaddehimulla, was one of the few people in the area who owned a radio.  Only at nighttime, when they would not be seen, Johnny and Robert would visit this woman to listen to news of the rebellion on the radio.

Police and the Sri Lankan Army moved to quell the revolt.  It is estimated that 1200 people lost their lives in the fighting.

The Capture of Johnny and Robert

In the District of Galle, police and the army surrounded Romassala Hill. Johnny and Robert escaped capture by hiding in caves and crevices between rock formations.  Two weeks later, in mid-April 1971, the pair tried to leave Galle, but police captured them at the bus station.

Robert’s Attempt at Escape and Death

In jail, Robert formed a plan.  He told police that he would lead them to a stash of weapons and bombs hidden on Romassala Hill.  On April 19, 1971 at about 10 in the morning, handcuffed, Robert led a group of officers to a place on the hill that had a cliff overlooking the sea.  Kicking one policeman and head butting another, Robert attempted to dive into the sea.  Gunshots rang out. Robert suffered a bullet wound to the right side of his abdomen just below his rib cage and fell dead into the water.

Johnny is Hung Upside Down, Beaten to Death and his Body Set on Fire

Police officers, enraged at Robert’s ruse, returned to the police station where they beat Johnny to death.  At one point, the police hung Johnny by his feet upside down. He died of the beating by 1 PM on April 19, 1971. A few days later, gasoline was poured on Johnny’s body, which was set on fire, then buried.

Gender Change: The Rebels Reincarnate as Twin Girls to their Friends Amarapala & Yasawathie

reincarnation sri lankan rebelsA little over 7 years later, on November 3, 1978 in the village of Pitadeniya, Amarapala, Johnny’s friend from the factory, and his wife, Yasawathie, celebrated the birth of fraternal twin girls who were named Sivanthie and Sheromie.  Sivanthie was born with a birthmark measuring 2 cm by 1 cm on the right side of her abdomen, just below her ribcage, corresponding to Robert’s gunshot wound. No one else in the family had such a birthmark.

Sivanthie remembers her Past Life Death as Robert Jumping into the Sea

When Sivanthie started talking at 2 ½ years of age, she said that she had another home where she had a father, mother and sister. She described how she had to hide in a cave with “Johnia.” (1) Sivanthie said that she and Johnia had been arrested and that their hands were handcuffed behind them. Sivanthie would place her little hands behind her back to demonstrate being handcuffed.

She said she had been shot while trying to escape by leaping into the sea. When describing this incident, Sivanthie pointed to the birthmark on the right side of her abdomen, which corresponded to the location of Robert’s gunshot wound.

Sivanthie recalls the Names of her Past Life Parents

Sivanthie said that her mother was Mary Akka. “Akka” means older sister.  Recall that Robert’s mothers’ name was Mary Nona. Ian Stevenson posited that Mary Akka was a nickname of Mary Nona.  Sivanthie asked to be taken back to her home.

Sivanthie remembers Past Life Colleagues of the Rebellion

Sivanthie said that in her past life, she knew a man named “Kurune Uncle.” (2) Mary Nona later confirmed that one of Robert’s collaborators in the insurgency was indeed called Kurune Uncle.

Sivanthie told her mother, Yasawathie, that they would hide in caves in the dark.  She also said that “Sudu Nangi” had once sent her cloths in a bucket. (3) In fact, Robert had known someone who he called Sudu Nangi. When he was in hiding, this woman allowed Robert to bath and wash his clothes utilizing her well. Robert would leave his clothes to dry and Sudu Nangi would later take or send the dried clothes to Robert. Once she did indeed send Robert’s dried clothes in a bucket. Sivanthie also stated that Sudu Nangi saw her, as Robert, being taken away by the police.  In fact, Sudu Nangi had witnessed Robert, handcuffed, being led by police after his arrest.

At the Temple in Yatigala, Sivanthie remembers her Past Life Name was Robert

Sivanthie would talk about a temple called Yatigala that she would go to.  Recall that Robert was a devout Buddhist. When the twins were 3 1/2 years old, their mother took them to the temple at Yatigala, where Sivanthie noticed that it had been rebuilt.  Indeed, a new wing had been added to the structure.  At the temple, for the first time, she stated that her name used to be Robert. This occurred in May or June 1982.

Amarapala Realizes Sivanthe was his Past Life Friend Robert

Amarapala and Yasawathie, the twins’ parents, now realized that Sivanthie was recalling the life of their friend Robert, who had attended their wedding.  Word of Sivanthie remembering a past life as the rebel Robert spread through the community in Pitadeniya. A schoolboy studying in Pitadeniya wrote to his family in Unawatuna, where Robert had lived, of these past life memories.  In this way, Robert’s family learned of Sivanthie’s statements.

Sheromie identifies Gnananadasa, her Past Life Brother

On July 17, 1982, several members of Robert’s family and friends visited the twins, who were now 4 years old.  One of the first to visit was Johnny’s younger brother and Robert’s friend, Gnananadasa. Upon seeing the visitor, Sheromie said, “my younger brother has come.” (4) This was Sheromie’s first statement about a past life. She then ran up to Gnananadasa and hugged him.  Gnananadasa wept at this reunion and promised to return.  Sheromie also made the statement that her past life name was Johnny.

Sheromie identifies her Past Life Mother and Sister

The next day, on July 18, 1982, Gnananadasa returned with his and Johnny’s mother and sister.  When they entered the house, Sheromie, in seeing Johnny’s mother, Sisel Hamy, exclaimed, “this is my mother.” Sheromie also called her “Ama,” which means mother. She then said, referring to Johnny’s younger sister, “this is my Nangi.” “Nangi” means younger sister in Sri Lankan. (5)

Sheromie expressed much affection for her past life mother, Sisel Hamy, while she was cool to Johnny’s father. This reflected Johnny’s relationship with his father, as the father and son did not get along well. When Johnny’s mother and sister got ready to go home, Sheromie repeatedly said, “Take me with you!” Sheromie weeped as they left.  (6)

Sheromie stated that they were traveling together when they were arrested. One witness said that when Johnny and Robert were arrested, one of them was already in the bus, while the other was still outside the bus. Sheromie also said they were caught together.

Past Life Memories: Sheromie Remembers Hanging Upside Down, her Death and from the Spirit Realm Observes Johnny’s Body being Burned

Two days later, when Gnananadasa asked Sheromie for details of her past life, she described how she was tortured and hung upside down.  Sheromie said she remembered seeing an upside down picture of the Buddha while hanging by her feet from the ceiling. Sheromie was on the verge of tears in describing these past life events.

Significantly, Sheromie also remembered that something was poured on her body and that her body was burned. Recall that the burning of Johnny’s body occurred several days after his death. As such, the soul of Johnny | Sheromie was able to observe the burning of Johnny’s body from the perspective of a spirit being, as Johnny was already dead when his body was set on fire. This is reminiscent of how in the case of Ahmet Delibalta | Erkan Kilic, Erkan remembered how the body of Ahmet was misidentified, even though Ahmet was already dead.

Sheromie now recalled that she had been Johnny in a prior lifetime and she recognized her twin sister as her past life friend, Robert. After this point the twins frequently talked about the past lives they had together.

For example, Sheromie said to her twin, “Your hands were also tied.” Sivenathie replied, “Your hands were also tied. Can you remember our bus ride together?” (7)

On Romassala Hill, the Twins Locate Past Life Locations

Godwin Samararatne, a research scientist, heard about the twins’ past life memories through a newspaper report and decided to investigate the cases.  He visited the twins at the end of June 1982. Ian Stevenson interviewed the twins and families involved in the cases in October 1982, with Godwin serving as an interpreter.

On July 4, 1982, when the twins were about 4 years old, Godwin took the twins to Romassala Hill. At the point where the road for vehicles ended, the twins were deposited on a footpath and asked to show the way to the homes of their previous lives. The twins made their way up the twisting and rocky path.  Sivanthie led the group to the spot on the cliff where she, as Robert, tried to escape by diving into the sea and was shot. When Ian Stevenson traversed this route, he was amazed that Sivanthie could find her way to the cliff, as there were so many rocks that in places, Stevenson could not even discern that a path existed.

At this point, the twins were again asked to find the their past life homes.  Sheromie now swung into action and led the group directly to the ruins of Johnny’s house on Romasalla Hill, which were located more than 100 meters away from the cliff where Robert had jumped into the sea.  The house had by now largely disintegrated, though the foundation was still present.

These examples of Geographic Memory are similar to how Barbro Karlen, at age 10, found her way to the Anne Frank House without directions, even though she had never been to Amsterdam before.

The Woman with the Radio meets the Twins, Who Comment on their Past Life Nocturnal Visits

Godwin also took the girls to Yaddehimulla.  The woman with the radio in Yaddehimulla heard about Sheromie’s and Sivanthie’s past life memories.  When she saw the twins passing by, she said to them, “Aren’t you going to come to listen to the radio?” The twins replied, “We will come in the night.” (8) Recall that Johnny and Robert would only come to listen to the woman’s radio at night, when they would be hidden by darkness. Ian Stevenson was impressed with this statement by the twins.

Past Life Phobias

The twin girls both had phobias of people wearing khaki colored shirts, which were the kind of shirts worn by police in Sri Lanka. They also became frightened whenever they saw the Jeep with policemen or soldiers in it.  This is similar to the phobia that Barbro Karlen had of men in uniforms, including policemen, in the Reincarnation case of Anne Frank | Barbro Karlen.

Past Life Behavior of Making Bombs & Smoking

While playing, both girls enjoyed making bombs of clay. When Ian Stevenson asked the twins what was used to make bombs, the twins recited, “nails, paper, tins, wire, broken bottles,” which indeed were used by the rebels in making home-made bombs. (9). Both had a habit of putting sticks in their mouths and pretending to light and smoke them.  Johnny and Robert had both been heavy smokers.

Twin Girls demonstrate Masculine Behavior

Sivanthie and Sheromie both behaved as if they were still men. For example, they insisted on urinating while standing up. Both liked to wear T-shirts rolled up from the bottom to expose their bellies and part of their chests, as did Johnny and Robert, but was unheard of for girls. Both like to climb trees and ride bikes, which was not done by girls in that era. Both twins said they had beards and they would even stroke their chins pretending that they were stroking their beards, which Johnny and Robert did indeed maintain.  They also asked their older brother to prepare cards so they could play a game.  Recall that Johnny and Robert often played cards together.

Masculine behavior was observed in the twin girls even up to when they were in their twenties, except that they learned to urinate sitting down, like women do.

Reincarnation, Gender Change, Homosexuality and Transsexuals

Reincarnation, Transgender & Gender Identity IssuesIn Ian Stevenson’s 1200 cases in which children’s past life memories were validated, in only 10 percent of cases was a change in gender observed, which is why when a change of gender occurs the reincarnated individual may still identify with the past life gender. This observation can explain why individuals are transsexual or homosexual. A dramatic case in this regard is the male Japanese soldier who reincarnated as a woman but retained a male mindset, including an attraction to women, and became a lesbian.

Families Involved Accept the Twins’ Past Lives, though Amarapala is Not Pleased his Girls were Rebels

As adults, the twins would visit Gnananadasa, Johnny’s younger brother, in Unawatuna several times a year and in reciprocal manner, he would drive to visit the twins in Pitadeniya. The twins and Gnananadasa would exchange gifts on these occasions.

All three families involved in the case, that is Johnny’s family, Robert’s family and the twins’ parents, accepted these two reincarnation cases based on recognitions made by Sheromie and Sivanthie.  The twins’ parents noted that they had never talked of the lives of Johnny and Robert at their home.

In fact, their father, Amarapala, stated that he had “completely forgotten of these deaths [of Johnny and Robert] until the twins started talking [about them].” Keep in mind that  over 10 years had passed from the date of the deaths of Johnny and Robert, April 19, 1971, to the point in time when the twins started to talk about their past lives in 1981 and 1982. (10) As such, since their parent had never spoken of the rebels, Sheromie and Sivanthie did not learn about the lives of Johnny and Robert through normal means.

Of note, Amarapala, the twins’ father, was not particularly happy that his daughters had been notorious rebels in their past lives, as Amarapala was not a supporter of the rebellion. Amarapala’s brother held a high position in the community, which led Amarapala’s family to support the rule of law, not insurgency.

Reincarnation and Similar Physical Appearance

Robert was shorter, stockier and had lighter skin than Johnny.  Similarly, Sivanthie (Robert) was shorter, stockier and had lighter skin than Sheromie (Johnny).  Gnananadasa, Johnny’s younger brother, noted a similarity in facial features between Johnny and Sheromie.  (11) (12)

Principles of Reincarnation

Physical Resemblance in Reincarnation Cases: Sivanthie had the same build as Robert and Sheromie had the same build as Johnny.  There was a similarity in Sheromie’s and Johnny’s facial features.

Planning Lifetimes and Same Family Reincarnation: Johnny and Robert were best friends and they reincarnated together as twins. This observation shows how souls can plan lifetimes to be reincarnated together.

Gender Change and Retention of Past Life Gender Traits: Johnny and Robert were males, reincarnated as females, but retained male behavioral traits, including urinating standing up. These types of cases can shed light on why some people become transsexual or homosexual.

Past Life Talent and Behavior:  Sheromie and Sivanthie made bombs out of clay and they knew what ingredients Johnny and Robert had used in building home-made bombs. The twin girls rode bikes, climbed trees, rolled up their T-shirts exposing their stomachs and pretended to stroke their beards, behavior typical of men and characteristic of Johnny and Robert.

Past Life Phobias: The twins were afraid of men in khaki uniforms and of Jeeps.  Johnny and Robert were arrested and killed by police and army personnel who wore khaki uniforms and traveled in Jeeps.

Geographic Memory: Sivanthie led a group researching the twins’ cases along a barely discernible path to the spot on the cliff where she, as Robert, tried to escape by diving into the sea and was shot to death. From there, Sheromie led the group to where her house was located during her life as Johnny.  In addition, Sivanthie’s past life memory was stimulated by being at a past life location, the temple in Yatigala, where she recalled her name had been Robert. Robert had been a devout Buddhist who worshipped at the Yatigala temple.

Past Life Birthmark: Sivanthie had a birthmark in the same location on the right side of the abdomen just below the ribcage where Robert incurred a gunshot wound. Sivanthie would point to her birthmark when describing how she died while attempting to jump into the sea.

Spirit Beings in Reincarnation Cases: Sheromie knew that Johnny’s body had been burned after his death. Gasoline was poured on Johnny’s body and burned several days after he had died, which means that the soul of Johnny | Sheromie observed this event from the spirit world.

Soul Survivor: Past Life Story of World War II Fighter Pilot James Huston, Jr. | James Leininger

As a young boy, James Leininger had spontaneous memories of a past lifetime as an American fighter pilot. His father, Bruce, through research, was able to establish Little James’s past life identity as James Huston, Jr. Little James eventually was reunited with this past life sister who validated his past life memories.

Soul Survivor: A Past Life Story

From the inside cover of Soul Survivor: “This book reveals stunning drawings from James Leininger illustrating his unshakable memories, photos that portray the eerie resemblance between the young James and the adult James Huston, and the forward from world-renowned past lives expert Carol Bowman.

In SOUL SURVIVOR, readers will come to know and believe in the special child who harbors the soul of a man who died in 1945.”

James Leininger’s story has come to light through four years of research conducted by his parents, Bruce and Andrea.  For Bruce, this involved a great personal struggle, for the proposition that his son is the reincarnation of James Huston, Jr. conflicted with his very strong Christian beliefs.  Indeed, one of the most fascinating aspects of the Leininger’s story is to witness the conversion of Bruce from a conservative, evangelical Christian, to a Christian who has accepted reincarnation as a reality.

As a boy, James Leininger remembered a past lifetime as an American fighter pilot who died in combat in World War II. This case has similarities to the case of Carl Edon, a young boy in England who remembered a past life as Nazi pilot named Robert who died in a bombing run in Britain.  In both cases, young children had innate knowledge of World War II aircraft and it was their Christian, skeptical fathers who served as the primary researchers.

The Robert-Nazi Pilot | Carl Edon reincarnation case is instructive in that it shows that a soul can change nationality and ethnic affiliation from one incarnation to another.  Robert, a German air force pilot who died in England, reincarnated as a British citizen. This case, as well as many other reincarnation cases, demonstrates that one can change nationality, ethnic affiliation, as well as religion, from one lifetime to another.  This observation illustrates how in the end, war is senseless and self-defeating from a karmic point of view.  A related case involves David Llewelyn.

James Leininger’s Past Life Nightmares of an Airplane on Fire

image description

James was born on April 10, 1998 to Bruce and Andrea Leininger while they were living in the San Francisco Bay area.  When Bruce was offered a job has a human resource director for an oil industry company, the family moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, where James would grow up.

After turning two years of age, James started to experience vivid nightmares that would make him scream out from his sleep.  On May 1, 2000, when James was just over 2 years of age, Andrea heard her son’s voice pierce the night’s calm:

“Airplane crash!  Plane on fire! Little man can’t get out!”  Andrea ran to his bedroom and saw James struggling.  “He was lying there on his back, kicking and clawing on the covers, like he was trying to kick his way out of a coffin.” (1)

The same nightmare kept recurring four to five times a week.  After another nightmare, Andrea noted:

“He was lying there on his back, kicking and clawing on the covers, like he was trapped in a plane.” James was crying out: “Airplane crash! Plane on fire! Little man can’t get out!” (2)

When Andrea asked who the little man in the plane was, James replied: “Me”

When Bruce asked James who shot his plane down, James stated, “The Japanese.” (3)

When he was asked how he knew that it was the Japanese who shot down his plane, James replied: “The big red sun.” (4)

Leininger Huston Reincarnation Past Life drop tank LBruce and Andrea were impressed and puzzled with James’s knowledge regarding Japanese World War II aircraft, as they knew he did not learn this information though normal means.  As a result, when the nightmares occurred, they would ask James more detailed questions about his dreams.  When his parents asked for the names of other people in the nightmares, James stated that he had friend who was also a pilot, whose name was “Jack Larsen.” (5)

In time, Bruce and Andrea would learn that James Huston, James’s past life persona, did know a Jack Larsen.  Eventually, little James would met this man who he knew in a past incarnation.

James Leininger’s Past Life Obsession with Airplanes and Knowledge of WW II Aircraft

In addition to having nightmares about an airplane crash, his parents noted that James had an obsession with airplanes, particularly WW II aircraft with propellers.  His parents also noticed that he would crash his toy planes into the coffee table, knocking off the propellers.

In his car seat, James would put on imaginary headphones and facemask, as if he was preparing to fly a plane. James even created a simulated cockpit in one of the family’s closets.

He also continued to demonstrate unusual knowledge about airplanes.  For example, when Andrea gave James a toy plane with what looked like a bomb under it, James looked at it and said:

“That’s not a bomb, Mommy, that’s a dwop tank.” (6)

James was referring to a fuel tank, called a “drop tank,” that is attached to the underside of a plane tha is ejected and dropped off when the fuel is spent.  His parents reflected:

How did this two-year old know what a drop tank was?  He did not learn this from television programs the family watched or books that they read. How did he know about the Japanese and their emblem of the rising sun, the big red sun?

It was Andrea’s mother, Bobbi, who first hypothesized that James’s nightmares could stem from a past lifetime.  Bobbi told Bruce and Andrea about Carol Bowman, author of Children’s Past Lives, whom the Leiningers contacted.  Carol had been involved in researching children who remember past lives since 1980.  She gave valuable advice to Bruce and Andrea on how to handle little James’s nightmares.  Carol related that it was important to listen to James in a supportive way and to keep reassuring him that he was safe now.

Leininger Huston Reincarnation Past Life Corsair HLOver time, little James revealed that the man in his nightmares was also named James, that he flew a plane called a Corsair,  that the plane he flew took off from a boat and that the boat’s name was the “Natoma.”  He knew that the Corsair would veer to the left on takeoff and that the Corsair had a tendency to blow tires out upon landing. (7)

The Corsair had a distinctive gull-wing, to reduce the height of landing gear.

In addition, James knew that US fliers gave Japanese bombers girl names and Japanese fighters boy names.  For example, James said that Japanese fighters were called Zekes and bombers were called Bettys. (8) In researching these statements, his father Bruce was amazed to find that James was correct.

When the family was watching a History Channel program on World War II in which Corsairs were shooting down Japanese planes, the narrator said that the downed Japanese planes were Zeros.  Little James corrected that narrator in saying that the Japanese planes were not Zeros, but Tonys.  Bruce and Andrea didn’t know what a Tony was.  James explained that the Tony was a fighter that was smaller than a Zero. Again, with investigation, his parents found that this statement made by their young son was accurate. (9)

In the coming months, Bruce would also find out that James, in a past lifetime, had himself shot down a Tony.

Reincarnation CorsairPast Life Behavior: Little James does a Flight Check around a Corsair

When his parents took him to the Lone Star Flight Museum, they were surprised to see young James walking around a Corsair, conducting a flight check, like a pilot normally does before boarding the aircraft they were about to fly. (10)

Andrea mused that her son was not even potty trained, yet he knew details of World War II and aircraft of that era.  She was open to the possibility that James was experiencing memories from a past lifetime.

Bruce Leininger, a Christian, Reluctantly Uncovers Evidence of a Past Lifetime for Little James

Natoma Bay Leininger Huston ReincarnationWhile Andrea was comfortable with the idea of reincarnation, Bruce was extremely reluctant to consider that James’s memories could derive from a past incarnation, as it conflicted with his deep Christian beliefs.  Still, he started to research statements made by little James.  Bruce, for example, found that there was indeed a World War II aircraft carrier named the Natoma Bay, which operated in the Pacific and is pictured to the right.

Bruce obtained a book on aircraft carriers engaged in the Pacific.  When Bruce and James leafed through it together and came to a section on the Battle of Iwo Jima, James told his father that it was there, at the Battle of Iwo Jima, that his plane was shot down and crashed.

Bruce then learned that the Natoma Bay had indeed supported the US Marine’s invasion of Iwo Jima.  How could James know this, Bruce wondered, of a ship called the Natoma and that the Natoma participated in the battle of Iwo Jima?

Was it possible that it was here, as part of the Battle of Iwo Jima, that James in a past lifetime had the experience of being unable to get out of a cockpit, where he used his legs to try to kick his way out, as his burning aircraft dove down to the sea?  (11)

Bruce Leininger identifies his Son’s Past Life Identity

Little James would draw pictures of battle scenes, which featured propeller planes and bombs exploding.  He would sign his pictures, “James 3.” These pictures are featured in Soul Survivor.  He gave his GI Joe dolls unusual names, including Billy, Leon and Walter, names that his parents never mentioned, names that none of their friends had. How did he choose these names, Bruce and Andrea wondered?  (12)

When Bruce asked why he called his dolls these names, James answered, “Because that is who met me when I got to heaven.” (13)

Though Bruce was reluctant to accept that his son’s memories derived from a past lifetime, James’s fund of knowledge of WW II aircraft made him research this possibility in earnest.  He searched through military records and archives.  Bruce learned that the Natoma Bay crew held reunions.  He decided to attend one of these gatherings and Bruce traveled to his first Natoma Bay reunion, held in San Diego on September 11, 2002, one year after the World Trade Center terrorist attacks.

At the reunion, Bruce learned that 18 aircraft carrier pilots from the Natoma Bay had died during service in the Pacific.  One of them was named James Huston, Jr.  Recall that little James said that his name was also James when, in his nightmares, he was trapped in a burning airplane cockpit.  He even he signed his battle pictures, James 3, which could refer to the third James is a series, that is, James Sr., James Jr. and little James 3.  Bruce also learned that James Huston was the only pilot to die in the invasion of battle of Iwo Jima.  Huston died on March 3, 1945. (14)

Bruce also found that Billy, Leon and Walter were the names of three Natoma Bay Navy aviators who had died before James Huston, Jr.  Their full names were Billie Peeler, Leon Connor and Walter Devlin. (15)

Recall that James called his GI Joe dolls Billie, Leon and Walter, and that he said that they were waiting for him when he went to heaven.  Bruce and Andrea learned that the hair color of each doll matched the hair color of the deceased aviator.  Billie Peeler had dark hair, as did James’s Billie doll.  Leon Connor had blonde hair, as did the Leon doll and Walter Devlin had reddish hair, as did James’s Walter doll. (16)

Bruce Finds Jack Larson & Other Pilots from the Natoma Bay who Verify James’s Past Life Memories

Bruce also learned that Jack Larsen was indeed another pilot on the Natoma Bay.  Larsen was still alive and living in Arkansas.  Bruce visited him there.  James’s memory of having a friend named Jack Larsen was also thus verified.  (17)

Bruce eventually found pilots who witnessed James Huston’s plane go down.  Jack Durham, John Provost and Bob Skelton saw that an antiaircraft shell knocked the propeller off of Huston’s plane.  This explained why little James would knock propellers off his toy planes.  They also validated that Huston’s plane caught fire and that Huston went down with his plane. (18)

Bruce found one discrepancy in James’s version of events in that when Huston crashed and died, he was flying a FM 2 Wildcat, not a Corsair.  Bruce later learned from another pilot, Bob Greenwald, that Huston had participated in a program in which Corsairs were tested for aircraft carrier landings.  As such, little James was correct in stating he had flown a Corsair.  Greenwald also confirmed that Corsairs would veer to the left on takeoff and blow tires on landings, just as little James had said.  (19)

Natoma Bay Memorial
Natoma Bay Memorial

In his quest to understand his son’s nightmares, Bruce came to personally know surviving veterans who had served on the Natoma Bay.  He also learned about those who did not survive.  In the process of validating his son’s memories, Bruce came to greatly admire the Natoma Bay veterans who so bravely and unselfishly served their country.  He understood the sacrifices they had made.

Bruce put his feelings into action by creating a memorial to commemorate those on the Natoma Bay who had died in action.  This memorial was inaugurated at the Nimitz Museum in Fredricksburg, Texas.  Many Natoma Bay veterans attended this inauguration.  Enlarge the image of the memorial by clicking on it and use your arrow keys to scroll up and down.  On the enlarged image, you can make out the name of James Huston, Jr. in the column above the name Abraham Lincoln.

Little James identifies a Past Life Friend by recognizing his Voice

One of the people who James saw at the Nimitz museum was Bob Greenwald, who he recognized on sight and who he named correctly.  When Bruce asked James how he knew that this man was Bob Greenwald, James said he had recognized Bob’s voice.

At the ceremony, young James was also reunited with his past life friend, Jack Larson.  Recall that soon after James started to have his nightmares, he told Bruce that a friend he had on the Natoma was named Jack Larson.  On an endearing note, at the memorial ceremony, little James wore a miniature pilot’s flight suit. (20)

Friends of James Huston Observe an Uncanny Past Life Physical Resemblance between James Leininger and James Huston, Jr.

3-huston-leininger-lo-resSignificantly, the veterans at the Natoma Bay memorial inauguration, who knew James Huston, Jr., commented on how little James Leininger looked just like the deceased James Huston, Jr.  As such, this represents another case which demonstrates that physical appearance can remain consistent from one incarnation to another.

On a poignant note, his parents observed that James seemed dismayed at the memorial inauguration.  When they asked James why, he replied that he was sad because everyone looked so old.  Little James remembered how his shipmates looked as young men, not senior citizens. (21)

A Reunion with Anne Barron, James Leininger’s Past Life Sister

Andrea Leininger was able to use census and other records to find the family of James Huston, Jr.  She learned a surviving sister, Anne Huston Barron, was living in Los Gatos, California.   Anne was 84 years old when Andrea contacted her. (22)

Andrea set up a phone call between Anne and little James.  In this conversation, James knew many personal details of James Huston’s life, which Anne confirmed as accurate.  Examples include:

  • James told Anne that he called her Annie.  Anne confirmed that only her deceased brother, James Huston, called her Annie
  • James told Anne that they had a sister named Ruth, which was correct
  • James said Ruth was four years older than Anne and that Anne was four years older than James, which was correct
  • James reported that their father was alcoholic and smashed things when drunk, and that he had to go into rehab for alcoholism.  Anne corroborated this.
  • James said that Ruth, who was a society columnist for a local paper, was “mortified” when their mother took a job as a maid for a wealthy family that Ruth was writing about. Anne confirmed this account.
  • James said that he and Anne, as children, had matching portraits done by the same artist, which were gifts from their mother, whose name was Daryl.  Anne confirmed all these statements. (23)

Even a resolute skeptic would have to admit that such specific memories cannot be coincidental.  Given the facts of the case, Anne, who has since passed away, accepted James Leininger as the reincarnation of her brother, James Huston, Jr., and she sent him her brother’s remaining artifacts.  When James opened the box sent by Anne, he sniffed the model Corsair which was inside and he said that it smelled like an aircraft carrier.  Bruce noted a diesel oil smell emanating from the box. (24)

James Huston also had an Early Fascination with Aircraft: A Previous Past Life as an Aviator?

Of interest, Anne related that James loved flying and that even as a young boy, James Huston made balsa wood models of airplanes.  When he was old enough, James Huston went flying in biplanes.  In other words, just as James Leininger had a fascination with planes as a child, so did James Huston.  This raises the question of whether Huston | Leininger had a prior incarnation that involved aviation. James Leininger can Sing like James Huston: A Past Life Talent

In a personal communication, Bruce Leininger has observed that his son James is a gifted singer, who has performed in a musical at his school. Bruce notes that neither he nor his wife can sing at all, but he learned that James Huston had a beautiful singing voice. As such, it appears that a gift for singing has been carried over from one incarnation to another.

Gratitude to the Leininger Family: The Reincarnation Research Award

We owe a great deal to James, Andrea and Bruce Leininger for researching this case and making it public.  James himself has become an advocate for reincarnation, as he should be, given the strength of his reincarnation case.

This case has attracted a great deal of attention, as ABC Primetime in the United States ran a segment on the Leininger case in April 2004 and a Japanese television show took the Leiningers out to the spot where James Huston died.  Little James threw out a wreath from the ship onto the water where James Huston’s plane dove into the sea, to commemorate his own past life persona. This scene is featured in the video: Evidence of Reincarnation

For their efforts, we bestow Andrea, Bruce and James Leininger, as well as their past lives counselor, Carol Bowman, Reincarnation Research Award.

Let us close this section with a quote from Soul Survivor:

“The story, Bruce is convinced, is a gift to those who need some tangible proof that there is something beyond death, that life has meaning…It revived his convictions and faith.” (26)

Evidence of Spirit Beings in a Reincarnation Case and the Planning of a Lifetime in the Huston | Leininger Case

In addition to providing strong evidence of reincarnation, there are several incidents relating to James’s story which provide evidence of the existence of spirit beings.

One of the most dramatic involves statements made by James in which he said that he picked Bruce and Andrea as parents, while the soul of little James was still in the spirit world.

Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu
Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu

James had told Bruce that he saw Bruce and Andrea when they were vacationing at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Honolulu.  Little James called it the “big pink hotel” in Hawaii, which the Royal Hawaiian is.

In fact, Bruce and Andrea were at the Royal Hawaiian 5 weeks before Andrea become pregnant with James.  Bruce and Andrea had never told James about their Hawaiian vacation.  As such, little James knew about their stay at the Royal Hawaiian by paranormal means.  I would suggest that the soul of James Leininger was indeed able to observe his future parents from the spirit world and that the souls of Andrea, Bruce and James all agreed to, that is planned, to create the family that they did. (27) Indeed, it is very likely that these three have a prior past life connection.

Reincarnation & Anniversary Events

Anniversary phenomenon can be seen as the interaction of the soul with the physical world.  The premise is that when an individual incarnates on Earth, the soul continues to have its own existence in the spiritual world.  The soul projects extensions of itself into its incarnations, holographic projections into the physical plane.

John Gordon | Jeff Keene

When anniversary phenomena occur, we can see this as the soul transmitting the anniversary information to its own incarnation.  Alternately, a spirit guide that works with the individual may also orchestrate anniversary phenomena.

Initially, the individual may not even understand the meaning of the event when it occurs.  As an example, in the reincarnation case of John B. Gordon | Jeff Keene,  Jeff experienced severe jaw pain on an anniversary date of Gordon incurring gunshot wounds to the jaw.  Jeff was taken to the emergency room of a hospital, as he was concerned that he was having a heart attack.  Only years later did Jeff become aware that the jaw pain could be interpreted as an anniversary event from his lifetime as John B. Gordon.  Jeff found that Gordon was shot in the jaw when he was 30 years old, while Jeff experienced the severe jaw pain on his thirtieth birthday.

In the Huston | Leininger case, Bruce and Andrea noted in Soul Survivor that James’s nightmares of dying in a plane crash had resolved for several months.  They hoped that the phase of James’s life in which he had these nightmares had ended.  Yet on March 3, 2003, James had another plane crash nightmare.  James Huston had died in the battle of Iwo Jima on that same day, March 3, 1945.

If this is accepted as an anniversary event, then the soul of James Huston | James Leininger had communicated awareness to little James of the significance of March 3 while he slept.  Note that this anniversary event occurred before Bruce, through research, determined the date of James Huston’s death. (28)

Another possible synchronistic event or events involves Bruce, who twice traveled by airplane on September 11 to do research on his son’s reincarnation case.  Bruce made note of these eerie coincidences in Soul Survivor.

Though traveling twice on September 11 may just be a coincidence, there may be meaning in this date, as evidence of reincarnation may help prevent future September 11 type attacks.  As noted above, reincarnation research shows that one can change religion, nationality and ethnic affiliation from one incarnation to another.  This powerful realization can help create a more peaceful world.

Spirit Beings & Spiritual Communication

Another event that provides evidence of communication by spirit beings involves Anne Huston Barron, the sister of James Huston.  Anne related to Andrea that on the day that James Huston was killed, on March 3, 1945, she was cleaning her house in California when she felt the presence of her brother, James.  Anne even started talking to him.  She remembered the incident distinctly.  Anne learned several days later that her brother had died at that exact moment in the Pacific.  As such, the spirit of James Huston appears to have been in contact with his sister, Anne, at the time of his death. (29)

Similarly, on March 3,1945, a family friend of the Huston’s, Lydia Eastman, had a dream in which  James came to her and said, “I just want to say goodbye.”  Lydia later learned that James Huston had died on that day.  Again, it appears that the soul of James Huston was in contact with Lydia Eastman on the day of his death. (30)

Another account involves Jack Durham, who served with James Huston as a pilot.  Durham’s plane had been shot down during World War II and when this occurred, he lost his teeth and dislocated his shoulder.  Relatives of Jack Durham informed the Leiningers that on the day that Durham was injured, thousands of miles away, his relatives heard Jack cry out.  As such, it appears that the spirit of Durham was communicating with his loved ones. (31)

Principles of Reincarnation & Understanding Past Lives

4-huston-leininger-lo-resThis very compelling reincarnation case demonstrates the following features:

Physical Resemblance in Reincarnation Cases: When James Huston’s shipmates met James Leininger at the Natoma Bay memorial inauguration, they commented on how little James looked so much like James Huston.  On this page, four image comparisons at different stages of life are presented. Other cases in which photos are available across two lifetimes that dramatically show physical resemblance include:

Reincarnation Case of Hanan Monsour | Suzanne Ghanem

Reincarnation Case Rashid Khaddege | Daniel Jurdi

Past Life Knowledge and Talent: As a young boy, James Leininger had an impressive fund of knowledge regarding WW II aircraft, which appears to derive from his past life as a WW II fighter pilot.

In addition, James has demonstrated a natural talent for singing, as did James Huston.  In contrast, James’s parents do not have a gift for singing.

Spiritual Communication in Reincarnation Cases and Planning Lifetimes: James told Bruce and Andrea that he picked them as parents when they were at the pink hotel in Hawaii. Indeed, Bruce and Andrea were at the Royal Hawaiian hotel five weeks before Andrea became pregnant with James.  As such, it appears that James was observing Bruce and Andrea from the spirit world, prior to his birth, and made the plan to born to them.

Another example of spirit beings involves Anne Huston Barron, the sister of James Huston, who stated that she felt the presence of her brother on the very day that he died.  Similar episodes occurred regarding Lydia Eastman and Jack Durham.  As discussed above, anniversary phenomenon can also be seen as occurring through spirit being intervention.

Conclusion

The James Huston, Jr. | James Leininger case is one of the most compelling reincarnation cases in existence.  Evidence of spirit beings is also provided in this rich case.  We thank the Leininger family for doing this very important reincarnation research and making it public, even when it conflicted with the tenets of their religion.  You are heroes in the search to understand the mechanism and meaning of human existence.  As noted before, for your efforts, we are pleased to give you the: Reincarnation Research Award
