Affirmed by: Spirit Guide or Spirit Being Ahtun Re in a Ryerson-Semkiw Reincarnation Research Session, 2006

Article by: Walter Semkiw, MD

One of Oprah Winfrey’s favorite poets is Maya Angelou, who has expressed the experiences and challenges that African-Americans have faced in her works.

When I read about Phillis Wheatley, who was brought to Boston as a slave and became the first African-American poet in the history of the United States, I wondered if Angelou is the reincarnation of Wheatley.

In a session with Kevin Ryerson, Ahtun Re agreed with this proposed match.

Principles of Reincarnation & Understanding Past Lives

Physical Resemblance from One Lifetime to Another: Though the number of portraits of Phillis Wheatley is limited, in some images of Maya Angelou, a resemblance can be seen.

Innate Past Life Talent: Phillis Wheatley’s gift for prose is reflected in the works of Angelou.

Renewal of Relationships through Reincarnation: In my books Return of the Revolutionaries and Born Again, Oprah Winfrey is identified as the reincarnation of James Wilson, a signer of the Declaration of Independence and a scholar of English literature.

Phillis Wheatley lived during the American Revolution; George Washington and Thomas Paine were admirers of her work. Washington even invited Wheatley to his home after she wrote a poem about him.

As James Wilson resided in Philadelphia, it may be that Wheatley and Wilson never met in person. It is very likely though, that Wilson appreciated her poetry, much as Oprah admires the prose of Angelou.

Proposed by: Walter Semkiw, MD

Affirmed by: Spirit Guide or Spirit Being Ahtun Re in a Ryerson-Semkiw Reincarnation Research Session

Article by: Walter Semkiw, MD

David Mitchell is the author of Cloud Atlas, which has been made into a film by Lana and Andy Wachowski, along with Tom Tykwer. The Wachowskis are best known for their Matrix movie series. Lana Wachowski was previously Larry Wachowski, as this individual has changed gender from male to female. Transsexualism from the point of view of reincarnation is discussed on the page regarding past lives for Lana and Andy Wachowski (pending).

Halle Berry as the Reincarnation of Dorothy Dandridge

Cloud Atlas involves reincarnation, which makes this movie of great interest to me, especially since one of the stars, Halle Berry, is featured as a reincarnation case in Born Again. She is also featured on the ReincarnatoinResearch.com web site at the: Reincarnation Case of Dorothy Dandridge | Halle Berry

David Mitchell has stated, regarding, Cloud Atlas: “All of the [leading] characters are reincarnations of the same soul … identified by a birthmark. … The “cloud” refers to the ever-changing manifestations of the “atlas,” which is the fixed human nature. The book’s theme is predacity … individuals prey on individuals, groups on groups, nations on nations.” (1)

Ian Stevenson, at the University of Virginia, found that individuals who died of a traumatic wound, such as a bullet or stab wound, would have a scar or birthmark in the same anatomic location in a subsequent incarnation. This likely relates to David Mitchell’s use of a birthmark to identify a soul in a series of incarnations.

I was intrigued by who the author may have been in a prior lifetime. As I pondered this question, the words “Jules Verne” entered my mind. I found that an image of a young, clean-shaven Verne, which demonstrated a physical similarity between Verne and David Mitchell.

Reincarnation Case of John Keats | Beck

Revealed by: Spirit Guide or Spirit Being Ahtun Re in a Ryerson-Semkiw Reincarnation Research Session

Article by: Walter Semkiw, MD

Past Life Talent: Poets Becoming Songwriters in Contemporary Times

One of my favorite musicians is Beck Hansen, who goes by the stage name “Beck.” In a session with Kevin Ryerson, I asked Ahtun Re who Beck might have been in a past lifetime. I was surprised when Ahtun Re told me that Beck had been the English romantic poet, John Keats, in a past incarnation.

I asked why Beck is a musician while Keats was a author. Of course, as a singer-songwriter, Beck does function as a poet in writing lyrics to his songs. Ahtun Re explained that artistic souls can change the media of artistic expression from one lifetime to another. In fact, many reincarnated poets have made the transition from poetry to songwriting as in contemporary times, as many more people are attracted to popular songs than to poetry.

Another factor is upbringing, as Beck’s father is a musician. Similarly, my father was a physician and my brothers and I all went into the medical field.

Past Life Patterns: John Keats Odes reflected in Beck’s Odelay

One interesting correspondence is that Keats was most famous for his “odes,” a series of six poems that Keats wrote in 1819. In synchronistic fashion, one of Beck’s most successful albums is Odelay. Though the word odelay does not refer to poetry, Beck’s use of this title may represent a subconscious remembrance of affinity for the word ode.

Principles of Reincarnation & Understanding Past Lives

Physical Resemblance from One Lifetime to Another: A resemblance exists between John Keats and Beck. With images in the same pose, they would almost appear to be the same person.

Innate Past Life Talent: The artistic talent of Keats is expressed in Beck.

Change of Religion, Nationality and Ethnic Affiliation from One Incarnation to Another: Keats was born in London, England, to Christian parents. Beck was born in Los Angeles of mixed descent, with Scottish, Norwegian, Swedish and Jewish ancestors.
